Our Operations Zone Team is looking for a Carpenter to join our Team. In this role, you will work with building maintenance and construction in an internal and external shop to fulfill customer requirements in a timely and accurate manner. What will you be doing!

  • Building items as described in the customer requisition by interpreting sketches or plans and performing skilled carpentry work in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the repairing and finishing of building maintenance and construction to ensure customer satisfaction and a safe working environment. This can include carpentry work, replacing floor coverings light masonry work (repair), etc.
  • Providing cost and labour estimates as required to assist customers in the calculation and budgeting of costs of renovations and additions.
  • Monitoring small inventory of spare parts and replenishing these items as required to ensure a continuity of workflow.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools, and equipment, adhering to provincial, federal, and AECL regulations to provide a safe and efficient working environment. Attending monthly safety meetings and immediately reporting any safety concerns and/or infractions.
  • Assisting in the training, coaching, and mentoring of trainees in safe workshop practices and procedures including work planning, assisting, and development of skills by demonstrating techniques, and describing suitable methods. Monitoring, assessing, and correcting work performance, discussing problems and improvements reporting progress to the supervisor, and identifying further training needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Secondary school graduation diploma and qualification as a Carpenter typically acquired through the completion of the required 7200-hour apprenticeship or equivalent.
    • Certification in Tube and Clamp scaffolding.
  • Experience
    • 7200-hour apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Knowledge of all applicable codes and standards to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
    • Demonstrated use and endorsement of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
    • Written and verbal communication skills to be able to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff across a broad range of disciplines to ensure proper coordination and prioritization of work.
    • Knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of woodworking tools.
    • Ability to estimate quantity, quality, size, and price of materials required.
    • Improvise, analyze, troubleshoot, and implement conceptual drawings.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

  • Working in various weather temperatures, loud noise, confined spaces, heights, and radiation.
  • 4 days a week, shifts are 10 hours a day.
