What will you be doing!

Our new Computer Systems Technologist will be supporting the research and development activities by:

  • Writing, modifying, integrating and testing computational software.
  • Coordinating the acquisition and installation of user application software, libraries, and other utilities.
  • Assisting the Branch Quality Representative to ensure software quality program compliance.
  • Working closely with senior technologists in maintaining high-performance computing resources.
  • Providing input to guide the growth of CNL’s computing capabilities.
  • Developing automated workflow solutions to chain multiple software packages.
  • Maintaining the departments’ inventory of workstations, laptops, monitors and other peripherals.
  • Preparing input models for existing simulation codes, executing cases, and collating results for follow-on analysis by scientific staff; and
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports, journal papers, conference papers, and presentations.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position, such as computer programming and normally has two to three years of pertinent technological experience. OR Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally has five to eight years of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Experience
    • Have at least two years of relevant technological experience.
    • Strong communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently, or as a member of a team.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications.
    • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and reliably.
    • Ability to take initiative in routine problem solving.
    • Ability to prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and user application documents.
    • Ability to develop software in compliance with analytical, scientific, or design quality standards.
    • Experience with programming languages such Bash, C/C++, Fortran, Python.
    • Experience with additional languages such as C#, Java, Visual Basic are an asset.
    • Experience in using and maintaining Linux operating systems.
    • Ability to compile/install and configure third-party software in a Linux environment.
    • Experience configuring / maintaining SLURM job submission systems, or equivalent, would be an asset.
    • Understanding of high-performance computing cluster and parallel computing architectures.
    • General knowledge of nuclear industry and nuclear power systems are desired.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status, which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Location:
CNL works with employees across our Canadian locations to enable a hybrid workforce where possible. Our Hybrid employees work with their manager to establish expectations for when they will be on-site vs. working from home.
