External Dosimetry Technologist(9 month Term)

Our Chalk River location is looking for an External Dosimetry Technologist to extract and compute data using established procedures involving use of learned scientific knowledge.

What will you be doing!

• Interpreting work assignment instructions; selects standard procedures, techniques and equipment, and establishes work sequence.
• Setting up work areas including equipment for surveys, experiments, tests, and analysis.
• Conducting experiments and tests; recording, organizing and analyzing observations and may suggest conclusions.
• Recognizing and investigating reasons for obvious deviations in results obtained.
• Making calculations and preparing charts, graphs and other supporting data for reports.
• Assisting in the preparation of technical reports; preparing and modifying drawings and designs.
• Extracting and computing data using established procedures involving use of learned scientific knowledge.
• Completing safety assessments and work permits where qualified.
• Using radiation sources or irradiators in accordance with procedures and processes.
• Ensuring procedures and processes are maintained for routine operations.
• Verifying that records associated with verification of compliance are available and stored in a manner consistent with procedures.
• Executing dosimetry methods as required to fulfill customer service requirements and expectations.
• Participating in drills and exercises in support of emergency operations.
• Conducting dosimetry methods and processes in support of an emergency.
• Participating in the conduct of performance, independent testing in support of the dosimetry license requirements.
• Collecting personal information as required for participation in the measurement and reporting of dose.
• Participating in dosimetry methods associated with collection and storage of information that ensures accuracy by verification as prescribed by instructions.
• Taking action to correct and recover from identified inaccuracies identified in information required for the storage and reporting of doses.
• Generating reports as required for compliance verification and/or reporting.
  Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for :

• Education
  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position and normally has two to eight years of pertinent technological experience OR Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally has five to twelve years of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
• Experience
  • General knowledge associated with nuclear industry and radiation protection considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesDemonstrated ability in a specialized field as well as a good general understanding of other fields.
  • Demonstrated technical innovation and application of 'state-of- the art' knowledge.
  • Ability to make a substantial contribution to the work of CNL.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment, possesses a keen sense of responsibility, and is reliable and thorough in carrying out duties.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and customers effectively.
  • Demonstrated capability in the use of generic laboratory tools to maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to lean new software. More advanced skills associated with the use of these tools is desirable (e.g. macro development, data processing).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain records as required by quality assurance program requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow health and safety instructions.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions :

• Routine work is categorized as laboratory and/or office work requiring the use of conventional tools, and the use of equipment that necessitates some repetitive work (loading cartridges, badge assembly, processing dosimeters).
• Routine operation is performed in building office / laboratory environment. Participation in emergencies is a requirement which can necessitate the need to operate in stressful situation which greater demands on communication and throughput based on the circumstance. Work assignment requires on site presence to service non-routine demands as well as participation in emergencies.
