Our Chalk River location is looking for a Facility Manager, ZED-2 for our Licensed Nuclear Facilities Branch!
What will you be doing!
The Facility Manager, ZED-2 (FM) is accountable to the Facility Authority (FA) for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the facility. The FM oversees a team of Nuclear Operators, Technicians, and Engineering staff, and is a key interface with support staff such as planning/scheduling, training, and Equipment Reliability. The FM is also a key interface with customers and works with the Operations Manager to ensure their work is conducted safely and efficiently.
- Ensuring the day-to-day safe operations and use of the Facility is in accordance with the established policies and procedures, including the License, Facility GDI, Conduct of Operations Procedure and the FA.
- Maintaining and approving changes to safety system test frequencies and test procedures.
- Approving non-routine operations, cell requests, experiments, and facility modifications.
- Approving and implementing the Facility GDI and Conduct of Operations procedures, operating procedures, and work control procedures.
- Managing the emergency response function within the Facility.
- Ensuring that the minimum staffing for all operations is maintained.
- Ensuring compliance with the requirements of all HSSE&Q programs.
- Facilitating nuclear criticality safety panel approvals for Facility Operations Criticality Safety Document and ensuring compliance with its contents.
- Executing various work control and work execution functions in the Facility.
- Providing Facility Authorization for Integrated Work Control (IWC).
- Ensuring that the Facility and equipment are in an appropriate state for safe operations and maintenance, before allowing work to proceed.
- Providing support as required to customers seeking to do work in the facility.
- Acting as Operations Manager for completion of ECC when tasked to do so.
- Providing support as required to customers seeking to do work in the facility.
- Assisting in the preparation and reporting of annual budgets and scopes of work.
- Assisting in facility strategic decision making and bring forward ideas for consideration and implementation.
- The Facility Manager must have the ability to troubleshoot and understand root cause analysis, and the ability to evaluate issues and make informed decisions.
- The Facility Manager is responsible for providing direction, and formal approval, for the following:
- Experimental and first-of-a-kind activities, which require thorough planning and foresight to ensure they will be conducted safely.
- Equipment break-downs and operational transients.
- Any change to facility equipment or procedures.
- Emergency Response.
- Consequently, the Facility Manager must have sound technical experience with mechanical systems and equipment, proven trouble shooting skills.
- Must have a proven track record as a strong leader, with the ability to motivate team members.
- High personal standards of performance, and commitment to the safe operation of the facility.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- At minimum, a Bachelors (Honours) degree in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing, or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
- Experience
- 8 or more years of relevant engineering experience in the nuclear field.
- Experience in remote handling and facility operation, including reactor operation and maintenance is an asset
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of nuclear operations is an asset. Specifically, knowledge of remote handling and reactor operations and maintenance.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Location:
This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL's Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee. CNL's Chalk River laboratory is nestled in the Ottawa Valley and affords our employees an area that is environmentally pristine with extensive forests, hills and numerous small lakes, all of which support a variety of wildlife typical to the southern edge of the Canadian Shield.
