  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

We are seeking a Project Controls Analyst to join the Sustaining Capital Project Management team located at our Corunna Site. Reporting to the NOVA Chemicals Manufacturing East Team Leader - Project Management, this role focuses on delivering cost controls, with a subset of scheduling controls, for a portfolio of sustaining capital projects. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring adherence to NOVA Chemicals' project controls practices and providing project teams with accurate, timely information to drive best-in-class project outcomes.

This role will ensure project targets are competitive and achievable, by collaborating with project teams to execute within allocated budgets and timelines. As an active member of project teams, this position adds value by proactively identifying potential concerns to Project Managers and Team Leaders to address any resource and budget constraints effectively.

You Will Use Your Expertise in the Following Areas:

  • Develop project controls plans, cost reports, and forecasts; recast estimates into control budgets
  • Monitor actual costs on a monthly basis, comparing to plan and identifying cost trends
  • Analyze costs, progress and performance variances
  • Document and manage changes to project scope, budgets and forecasts
  • Review cost and schedule performance data provided by Contractors, analyzing variances and identifying trends, risks and opportunities
  • Participate in project team meetings to review actual vs budget expenditures/schedules, as well as resource and cash flow commitments to maintain overall capital plan
  • Implement change management processes
  • Serve as the project interface with accounting and purchasing functions
  • Assist in resource planning and maintain project staffing plans
  • Review cost estimates and original budgets (internal and external)
  • Develop and publish the monthly project controls report
  • Operate and maintain project controls cost management systems, tools and data bases such as SAP - Project System Module and Primavera Schedules
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for Project Controls systems, processes, and tools
  • Share best practices through participation in discipline networks
  • Provide training on cost control, cash flow, and resource planning fundamentals
  • Support project data and document management improvement initiatives
  • Steward and uphold Project Controls work practices and procedures
  • Optimize integration of subfunctions: cost, estimate, schedule and accounting
  • Ensure compliance with work practices for completeness, consistency, and quality
  • Review end-of-stage deliverables to ensure completeness and quality

What We Are Looking For:

  • Technical school diploma with 8+ years of related experience OR 10+ years combination of post secondary technical education and related experience OR 10+ years of progressive experience in a manufacturing discipline or equivalent technology environment
  • Background in business administration, particularly with a focus on accounting/finance, will be considered an asset
  • Proficiency in financial project cost control, forecasting and financial analysis
  • Understanding of fundamental project management and project controls concepts
  • Strong organization, communication, analytical and mathematical skills are essential
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and efficiently, with a keen focus on accuracy, attention to detail and goal achievement
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
  • Experience with SAP S/4, ARIBA and Primavera will be considered an asset
