  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

We are seeking a Materials Management Team Leader who will provide leadership, strategic and tactical direction and oversight to the Technical and Corporate Procurement spare parts Warehouse Management and Materials Requirement Planning teams across all NOVA Chemicals' manufacturing sites located in Ontario and Alberta. This role will also support Materials Management strategies development and implementations at our manufacturing site in Louisiana and research centers in Alberta.

Reporting to the Leader, Procurement Operations, you will work with various internal business stakeholders, extended Supply Chain Management team, third party vendors and partners to develop the optimum strategies and lead the execution of a wide spectrum of activities related to Spare Parts Warehousing Management (WM), Inventory Management (IM), Materials Requirement Planning (MRP), and Inbound Logistics strategy, policy and procedures.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Lead approximately 30 staff/contractors comprised of two warehouse teams and a team of MRP planners to enhance the spare parts Materials Management (MM) function.
  • Ensure support for planned and unplanned outages, providing daily direction to warehouse and MRP teams.
  • Mentor and coach team members to develop personal and team plans aligned with business goals.
  • Develop and implement the Materials Management Improvement Program to achieve Best-In-Class status in MRP, Inventory Management, and Warehousing through collaboration with internal stakeholders and procurement teams.
  • Align Materials Management goals with the strategic direction of other groups to achieve critical business results.
  • Lead the implementation of Responsible Care (Health and Safety) Programs, monitor results, and drive improvements.
  • Optimize Materials Management, MRP, Inventory Management, and warehousing processes to ensure high efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop, track, and analyze performance indicators and benchmarking data for MM, IM, WM, and MRP across all NOVA Chemicals locations.
  • Optimize inventory levels and warehousing operations costs, implementing strategies like Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and vending machines.
  • Champion business process improvements in inventory management and warehouse operations across all NOVA Chemicals sites.
  • Provide integrated service for day-to-day management of spare parts and procured materials, ensuring best practices in inventory management and material handling.
  • Establish and implement inbound Logistics Management strategy, coordinating with freight and logistics providers for safe and reliable deliveries.
  • Develop work procedures and identify improvement opportunities for efficient Materials Management operations.

What We Are Looking For:

  • University graduate with 10+ years of related experience and continued professional development OR have 12+ years' combination of post-secondary education and related experience with continued professional development.
  • SCMP, APIX, or equivalent designation in Supply Chain and/or Materials/Inventory Management would be an asset.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience with strong interpersonal, mentoring, and organizational skills.
  • Experienced in project management, change management and continuous improvement.
  • Skilled in managing people practices such as performance management, compensation planning, development planning, and recruitment.
  • Strong communicator with internal teams and external stakeholders to facilitate understanding and resolve issues.
  • Ability to build and maintain beneficial relationships and networks within and outside Supply Chain Management and Business Units.
  • An understanding of interdependencies and collaboration opportunities between teams and stakeholders, particularly in processes and policies.
  • Experienced in initiating and implementing continuous improvement initiatives across multiple assets and stakeholders, driving consistency among geographically dispersed teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and changing business requirements while maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills with an analytical, data-driven mindset.

  • Adaptable and able to contribute in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP Modules (MM & PM), Source to Pay Technology (SAP-Ariba), MS Office (Excel), and Power BI.
  • Deep knowledge of Inventory and Warehouse Management processes.
  • Knowledge of Collective Agreements and Labour Relations is an asset.

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered to the nearest geographical NOVA Chemicals' location for this position
  • This role requires up to 25% travel and the successful candidate must be eligible to travel easily between Canada and the United States
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver's license
