The intermediate technologist position will include the execution of various maintenance, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities as required by the Toronto electrical department. Most site work will focussed on supporting projects in Ontario (province wide) with the opportunity to work on projects nationally. The Intermediate specialist will work closely with their team and the client to ensure the proper completion of a project. This position is a great fit for individuals with field experience, who are also interested to gain exposure to the engineering side of project delivery (in-office). At BBA, we strive to provide our clients with an in-house comprehensive service package, from feasibility study stage, to detailed engineering through to on-site commissioning and maintenance services. Candidates with hands on experience, who can think on their feet, and who value delivering a quality customer experience with be preferred for this role.

The Intermediate Field Services Specialist can expect to:

  • Lead and perform maintenance activities on protection and control systems (primary focus).
  • Lead and perform maintenance activities on high & medium voltage apparatus.
  • Monitor worksite projects being carried out at our clients' facilities.
  • Define safety procedures and criteria.
  • Draft commissioning reports.
  • Participate in the execution of detailed engineering projects.
  • Draft technical documents, calculation notes and estimates.
  • Working in outdoor environments in remote locations.
  • Apply established work methods and ensure their improvement.
  • Monitor worksite projects being carried out at our clients' facilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Know how to assign and define duties and tasks, duration, and level of expertise to each project stage.
  • Inspire respect and confidence and foster a favorable climate for teamwork.
  • Able to demonstrate/sell skills to peers, and internal and external clients.
  • Results oriented.
  • Strong knowledge of protective relays and their functions.
  • Good knowledge of substation maintenance practices.
  • Good knowledge of low, medium, and high voltage electrical apparatus.
  • Good knowledge of safety in electrical facilities.
  • Experience in power generation is considered an asset.
  • Ability to draft technical documents.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Acrobat Reader and other database applications.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, degree in Electrical Engineering, or other relevant education.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in protection relay programming and testing
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in control system testing
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in electrical apparatus maintenance and testing (preferred)
  • Must be comfortable working in severe weather conditions (hot and cold).
  • Must be comfortable driving on winter roads, in remote locations, and on forest service roads.
  • Must be comfortable working in remote locations with limited means of communication.
  • Open to travelling for work.
  • Must be able to consistently lift 70lbs.
