Your future role on our team

You will lead or participate in all phases of mining projects, from prefeasibility studies to commissioning, to provide expertise and high-quality consulting services for our clients. You will be key member of our multidisciplinary team of expertise, carry out high-tech process simulations and determine the equipment, tools and processes.

In addition, you will manage operational activities to support the department's objectives on project delivery, growth and development, quality and the employee experience. As principal Engineer, you will participate in the practice initiatives and foster a work environment where employees feel engaged and challenged.

  • Work with a team of skilled engineers, designers and project support staff to deliver projects on time, on budget and to the quality standards expected of BBA
  • Manage a variety of cross-discipline teams to ensure cost effective, safe and timely completion of projects that meet or exceed client expectations
  • Review and approve process plant material balance, process design criteria, PFD's, P&ID's, plant layouts, technical specifications and technical evaluations
  • Prepare operating cost evaluations
  • Liaise with clients on a technical level and present reports, publications and presentations in a professional manner
  • Manage the resource planning and assignment of work to team members
  • Work with employees to identify and schedule internal/external training opportunities
  • Lead the performance management process for team members
  • Ensure that all team members adhere to BBA's 10 Golden Rules for health & safety and that this function is embedded within all the work that they do

Training component (15% of time)

  • Plan and manage internal meetings with team members and external meetings with other stakeholders or subcontractors
  • Work with employees to identify and schedule internal/external training opportunities
  • Ensure that information circulates within the team and that members provide appropriate information, produced within the required timeframe
  • Act as a mentor to young professionals within the group

Business Development component (5 to 10% of time)

  • Develop constructive business relationships during project execution in order to promote repeat business
  • Promote the sale of cross-services to its existing clientele
  • Promote BBA's Mining and metal's services, both internally with colleagues and externally with our clients and future clients

Corporate Component (5 to 10% of time)

  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Mineral processing & Extractive Metallurgy Group's strategies, in collaboration with senior management, to stimulate the development of the group
  • Be involved in innovation, new service development and communication projects for the Mineral processing & Extractive Metallurgy Group
  • Support the Department Manager with change management and the communication of corporate initiatives

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer
  • Over twelve (12) years of experience in gold, copper, green energy materials (lithium, graphite, etc.) or base metal operations and/or design
  • General areas of expertise include metallurgical test work planning/analysis, crushing, grinding, flotation, hydrometallurgy, water treatment, gravity separation, pressure oxidation, heap leaching, CIL/CIP and electrowinning/refining
  • Strong track record of successfully completed projects in the mining industry
  • Available for occasional travel to domestic and international destinations
  • Enthusiasm and capacity for business development and corporate growth
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and process simulation software (e.g. METSIM, JKSimMet, Bruno, SysCAD, OLI)
  • Experience in feasibility studies and NI 43-101 reports
  • Excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written (a second language of French/Spanish is an asset)
  • Asset: demonstrated ability to act as a Qualified person
  • Asset: Knowledge of process control and optimization
  • Asset: operations and/or consulting experience
  • Asset: demonstrated ability to find innovative solutions to complex metallurgical problems
