Composite Repair Technician

This position reports directly to the Supervisor, Composite Assembly. The Composite Repair Technician is responsible for Repairing of various helicopter parts using a variety of different materials and resins depending on the parts and the repair instruction provided. The Composite Repair Technician will use small hand and pneumatic tools for surface preparation and sanding. The Composite Repair Technician will also learn bagging techniques when doing wet lay-ups.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Production:

  • Reinforce parts using composite materials in a wet layup process

  • Strong knowledge of composite lay-up techniques

  • Measure materials using basic metric measuring equipment

  • Prepare parts for curing process through bagging techniques

  • Keen awareness of the importance and impact their work has on downstream processes

  • Ensure all production orders are completed fully and properly with all traceability for all parts.

  • Working knowledge of IFMA's, EI's and Technical notes (specifications)

  • Reworking of parts to fix any non-conforming imperfections

  • Understanding of proper repairing techniques - surface preparation, resin mixing, wet lay-ups, bagging and curing methods

  • Report to lead hand recommendations for process improvements and provide explanations and demonstrations as required

Departmental Involvement:

  • Foster health and safety in the workplace and knowledge of health and safety requirements

  • Demonstrate standard work practices to ensure quality standards are met

  • Ensure work areas and equipment are kept clean and neat - 5S and FOD free

  • Assist with work station set up

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Experience using small hand tools such as spreaders, sanders, drills, grinders, tape measure, digital scales

  • Knowledge of reading and understanding instruction documents

  • Knowledge of wet lay-ups is an asset

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Knowledge of quality requirements and how to effectively meet quality standards

  • Teamwork focus

  • Follow standardized repair instructions

  • Experience in aerospace industry preferred

  • Organized Individual

  • Work independently under general supervision

  • Ability to set priorities & multitask

  • Knowledge of small hand and pneumatic tools

Job Requirements

  • Required to work weekly rotating shifts

  • Must be able to legally work in Canada
