Our head office based in Kingsville, Ontario is currently searching for Category Manager for the Supply Chain team. The Commodity Manager will plan in concert with Commodity Inventory Controller and their POD Directors (Category Management) activities related to the optimized movement of product within his/her scope of responsibility. They will interact in a dotted line fashion with procurement of a commodity, from intent to purchase through delivery of commodity.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am - 4:30 pm, half day Saturday's

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Determine production requirements at each DC if supply is not available in correct format to satisfy
  • Promote a "Customer 1st" attitude at all levels of the company in all activities.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs activities related to the commodity planning function.
  • Plan and advice on volume needs based on historical sales and budgets by item and customer.
  • Understand customer specifications helping to ensure unsurpassed customer service.
  • Manage and monitor commodity management reporting systems to match inbound volumes with sales
  • Assigns commodity requests to the appropriate originating grower/farm to meet demand
  • Coordination of all incoming shipments to best match with customer specification.
  • Report any discrepancies or problems.
  • Provide input to creation and maintenance of supplier scorecards.
  • Coordinate transfers as needed amongst MPL facilities.
  • Responsible for the Allocation plan of the distribution center, ensuring product rotation is possible and followed; with the goal of maximizing the overall freshness of inventory on hand.
  • Become familiar in leveraging the ERP system, mastering basic functions required for completing
  • responsibilities as described.
  • Work closely with cross functional teams such as Commodity Planning, Production Schedulers,
  • Production Managers, Operations Managers, Shipping and Receiving; with a focus on load priorities, product quality specifications, network analytics and operations planning to implement best practices that provide the best service to our customers at the lowest cost.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years' experience in related perishable field required.
  • PMAC certification required.
  • Can make decisions quickly when necessary.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures and will act with integrity and in the interest of the company.
  • Keep company information confidential and will not disclose company information to outside individuals.
  • Pays close attention to detail, demonstrates perseverance, and can manage people in a non-solid line
