Position Overview:

The Quality Engineer will take a hands-on leadership role working with all teams across the company from engineering to production as well as suppliers to minimize risk and to help make sure both design and implementation are right the first time throughout the product life cycle
The ideal candidate is highly technical, inquisitive, self-motivated, eager to both learn and transfer knowledge to other teams. The core focus of this role is to investigate, analyze and resolve product quality issues by conducting audits, inspections, developing and implementing control plans, analyzing defect trends, and leading continuous improvement projects.

This is a hybrid role based in our Kitchener office.

Main Tasks:

  • Develop Quality Plans with cross-functional teams on new and existing components to ensure that proper inspection controls are developed and maintained
  • Ensure supplier quality issues are contained and resolved in a timely manner to avoid any disruption to the production process
  • Work with Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering teams to develop check fixtures that will be used in both supply chain and Avidbots processes
  • Develop metrology standards (this may lead to the development of a quality lab) to improve Inspection capabilities to ensure product conformity
  • Ensure product and material performance is adequately monitored and where problems occur, implement appropriate and timely corrective actions as required
  • Work closely with Production Personnel in work cells assisting with inspection processes and verification
  • Monitor, communicate and ultimately improve supplier quality performance: including the application of relevant measurement controls, PPAP development, RoHS and REACH compliance, supplier corrective action, First Article Inspection (FAI) and program Safe Launch activities
  • Participate in internal problem-solving activities to eliminate recurrence of non‐conformances
  • Work to resolve technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of production and supply chain
  • Act as Quality Lead in sustainment engineering for warranty and service claims
  • Work with Purchasing and Production to evaluate/audit and approve new suppliers and/or processes as part of a New Product Introduction (NPI) process and/or full production products
  • Work with Engineering group through all phase gate processes to ensure quality is represented
  • Participate in the Production Pilot Run (PPR) for all product launch activities
  • Ensure that Engineering Change Requirements for Quality are reviewed and implemented
  • Improve process capability for both internal and external processes
  • Support the gauge calibration process to ensure accuracy of the measurement system

Requirements:

  • BSc. or College degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering/Technology preferred
  • Knowledge of various quality system methodologies 8D, Six Sigma, FMEA, PPAP, etc
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a Quality Engineering role
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, work well with diverse groups of people and be able to function independently of direct supervision
  • Calibration experience an asset
  • Successfully complete pre-employment onboarding requirements that may include criminal/civil background checks

Bonus:

  • ASQ Certification as a CQT/CQE or Six Sigma Green Belt an asset
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Intimate knowledge of ISO Standards
