Contract Period: Temporary part time

Hours of Work: Varies by shift. Shifts will be mostly weeknights and weekends.

Markham West - Thornhill Community Centre and Clatworthy Arena
Markham East - Centennial Community Centre, Mount Joy Community Centre, Cornell Community Centre, and Markham Seniors Centre
Markham North - Angus Glen Community Centre, Crosby Arena and Pan Am Centre
Markham South – Aaniin Community Centre, Milliken Mills Community Centre, and Armadale Community Centre

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Supervisor/Coordinator of Facility Operations, this position is responsible for assisting with facility operations maintenance, cleaning and repair work related to arenas, community centres/halls, outdoor/indoor pools, change rooms, and other assigned areas.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs general cleaning/maintenance i.e. mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, window cleaning, washroom cleaning, snow shoveling and salting, garbage pick up, detail cleaning, set ups and break downs of tables, chair or other equipment.
  • Operates power tools, cleaning and safety equipment
  • Responds to request from general public and other City staff on general facility issues and/or maintenance requests.
  • Patrols the facility, assess and mitigate facility problems, safety hazards and/or improper departmental operations
  • Ensures policy and procedures are followed according to the standards of City of Markham,
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work well with other staff.
  • Various administrative duties as required
  • Follows and ensures adherence of policies and procedures working closely with other City staff to ensure consistency. This includes COVID-19 health and safety protocols such as donning personal protective equipment (PPE) i.e. facemasks, goggles etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 15 years of age at the start of training
  • Experience in general maintenance
  • Ability and fitness level to perform general maintenance skills safely
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with diverse groups
  • Required qualifications (must be current and valid during work term):
    • Standard First Aid with CPR C with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Follows City of Markham’s policy, procedures and COVID-19 health and safety protocols such as donning personal protective equipment (PPE) i.e. facemasks, goggles etc.
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Check
