Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Survey Crew Leader with engineering and pre-construction survey, gather related information from City database for field works, survey layout and design works for Operation's road reconstruction program and other survey projects (Property Line location for internal and external customers, collect field data using survey instruments, download them and create base plans, as-constructed plans, Pre-engineering survey plans for culverts, Parks, steps, bleachers, Facilities, roads, etc.)
  • Function as instrument person/survey assistant when survey group is operating as 2 separate crews
  • Assist Utilities Coordinator to update street lighting inventory plans (Auto CAD), to co-ordinate/identify status of subdivisions for recovery costs/update permit status and other duties as required

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • University/College student with Civil/Municipal or Geomatics Engineering background
  • Enrolled at a recognized educational institute and returning to full time studies in the fall.
  • Municipal or Geomatics Engineering background preferred (Road, Sewer, Water-main, Street lighting construction practices/design/terminology)
  • Survey/AutoCAD experience an asset
  • Experience and Understanding of Surveying operations/instruments/processes/terminology
  • Drafting skills using AutoCAD
  • Volume computation Surveys (Field to Finish Surveys)
  • Advanced Computer skills (Excel, Word, Access)
  • Team player
  • Good customer service skills
  • Some physical exertion is required to perform the job (pounding stakes, lifting equipment)
  • Outdoors 80% of time with Survey Crew on Construction sites (including in inclement weather).
  • Requires safety boots and other safety clothing as applicable to site location.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and present an acceptable driver's abstract upon first day of employment is an asset
