Mid Canada Mod Centre (MC2) and Avionics Design Services (ADS) joined De Havilland in October 2023, creating additional capacity and expanding our expertise in both avionics design services and upgrades as well as maintenance and modifications.

In October of 2023, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada announced the acquisition of Mid Canada Mod Centre (MC2). Mid Canada Mod Centre is comprised of industry leading experts focused on ensuring commercial, charter, special mission and business aircraft operators are equipped with flight decks that provide safety and efficiency. As a premier Canadian aviation maintenance shop, the team of experts works to define avionics requirements to develop and certify solutions that fit each operator's individual need.

Profile

We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on professional for the position of Aeronautical Design, Structures and Stress Engineer. This position is based in Mississauga, ON. The Aeronautical Design, Structures and Stress Engineer will be responsible for designing and supporting the structural design team. This role involves conducting structural (stress) analysis, generating the associated documentation, and contributing to the development of best practices in structural analysis. On a case-by-case basis, the engineer may be designated as a Project Manager within the Engineering group. Maintaining consistent and proper communication with customers, addressing the customers' needs and ADS interests will be required.

This position will report to the Director of Engineering and will work in close cooperation with the TCCA delegates, the design manager and the planning and administrative departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design structural modifications, including new equipment and antennas installations supported by SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD software.
  • Generate certification/substantiation documentation, (Damage Tolerance Analysis, load and stress data; experience with AFGROW software would be an asset).
  • Review internal drawings and documentation for technical accuracy.
  • Determine the extent of affected airworthiness standards (CAR, FAR), proposes means of compliance with affected standards.
  • Remain current with respect to Transport Canada and Foreign airworthiness standards.
  • Participate in and contribute to discussions surrounding project related design and airworthiness issues.
  • Survey aircraft to determine the best design solution for modification.
  • Participate in meetings and reviews with certification authorities.
  • Support production, procurement, and customers as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with other technical groups and end users.
  • Engage with senior engineering member and TCCA delegates, seeking input and guidance as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, a related curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Aeronautical/Aerospace Structural Design and Certification Experience of a minimum of seven (8) years and preferably in Aftermarket modification, which will be considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineering designation or eligibility for PEO will be considered an asset.
  • Aircraft structural design experience with solid CAD skills (SolidWorks, Autodesk AutoCAD).
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

  • Proficient in AFGROW and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Collaborative team plater with excellent written and verbal communication skills, initiatives, strong sense of responsibility, and sound technical judgement.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think quickly and adapt creatively in a fast-paced, evolving business environment.
