Job Summary

Transit Infrastructure Management requires one co-op student to conduct transit infrastructure site surveys/inspections, record information in databases and analyze results, review pertinent drawings as related to transit infrastructure at bus stops, terminals and Transitway Stations in Mississauga and surrounding areas in accordance with MiWay's infrastructure standards/specifications and provide internal and external communications for areas of impact.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize and conduct transit infrastructure field surveys.
  • Research various sources of information and prepare reports in the form of maps, charts, and graphs.
  • Undertake measurements of bus stops, pads, signs and shelters.
  • Assist with topography surveys to determine precise locations and measurement of points.
  • Attend team meetings and update project progress.
  • Maintain accurate notes, records and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
  • Survey bus terminals and stations, and record infrastructure information.
  • Follow all safety procedures and be aware of changing surroundings.
  • Enter information into databases and complete various drawings using Microstation.
  • Provide support and assistance to Service Development Section (including Transit Priority, Transit Planning,
  • Scheduling and Data Management).
  • Assist in Board Period Infrastructure changes, including Operator and Customer outreach information sessions, as required.
  • Participate in onboard passenger survey (onboard and alighting).
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have completed 1st or 2nd year of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Design & Drafting or
  • Architectural Technology program. Enrollment of subsequent year is required.
  • Must hold a valid class "G" Licence with a driving record that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga. A
  • Driver's Abstract will be required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with other teams.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make decisions in the field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to work outside (driving, walking and/or standing) in varying weather conditions.
  • Weekend/Overnight work may be required.
  • Successful candidate is required to provide their own 'Green Patch' CSA approved safety footwear.

Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.22 - 22.84
