You as a Construction Engineer will:

  • Analyze and design formwork, falsework, platforms, frames, tie-backs, shallow foundations, connections, scaffold, and other miscellaneous temporary structures related to means and methods using steel, aluminum, wood, reinforced concrete, and various proprietary systems.
  • Assess the impact to the base structure induced by construction loading and all activities related to means and methods. Where required, design solutions to mitigate impacts to the base structure.
  • Produce design drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit in accordance with department standards.
  • Review and provide feedback on the drawings of junior team members.
  • Seal engineering documents (drawings, letters, reports, calculation packages, etc.) produced by yourself and other team members.
  • Visit sites to inspect designs, participate in coordination meetings, perform site walks, etc. on a monthly basis.
  • Establish effective communication with site teams in all areas to obtain information relevant to design tasks, clarify scope, ensure conformance with drawings and EllisDon best practices, etc.
  • Promote a culture of continual improvement, self-awareness, inclusion, and accountability.
  • Take an active role in mentoring/coaching/people development.
  • Provide technical input on proposals, schematic, and design development budgeting/proposals.
  • Actively identify potential areas for cost savings or value-engineering on projects.
  • Actively identify pitfalls on projects and address/resolve issues early.
  • Self-manage workload, identify priorities, and execute to deadlines.
  • Delegate work appropriately to ensure resources are used effectively and efficiently.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with engineering regulations in each jurisdiction of work (e.g. Permits to Practice, Competent Worker Designations, etc.).

Is this the right role for you?

  • You have a Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Applied Science, or Bachelor of Technology.
  • You have active P.Eng. with "permitted to practice" status, or immediate eligibility to obtain, in Ontario. The above in Alberta, British-Columbia, and Quebec considered an asset.
  • You have 4+ years of experience in structural analysis and design.
  • You have familiarity with structural analysis software (SAP2000, SAFE, ETABS, IES, etc.).
  • You have familiarity with Autodesk drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
  • Familiarity with temporary structures (formwork, falsework, scaffold, cranes, hoists, etc.) considered an asset.
