What can I expect to do in this role?

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent, the incumbent will:

• Assess electrical and advance traffic management needs;
• Direct/monitor employees and contractors in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, facilities and tunnel electrical system components;
• Inspect and audit electrical contracts, area maintenance contracts and manage third party maintenance agreements;
• Review electrical designs, provide reports and attend technical review meetings on behalf of the ministry;
• Provide technical advice and recommendations on electrical matters;
• Serve on various committees and task forces as required.

Note: This position requires the successful candidate to either possess or attain Certification for traffic signals (IMSA level 1 & 2); High Mast Lighting Certificate; Advanced 170 Certification; Traffic Controller Programming.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You possess an Electrician Trade Certificate (license) and Electrician Construction Maintenance and Construction - Electronic Control from the Ontario College of Trades
• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of maintenance requirements associated with highway electrical devices and their support structures
• You have knowledge of traffic management principles (related to signing, painting, illumination, traffic control devices etc.) and knowledge of highway construction principles
• You have knowledge in contract administration and administrative procedures, reporting and documentation
• You have knowledge of financial control principles to prepare detailed cost estimates, verify contractor payment certificates and monitor work Change Order expenditures

Legislative Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of applying functionally related legislation and regulations, policies, directives and specifications related to installation/ repair of electrical equipment
• You have knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Code and its application

Communication, Interpersonal and Analytical Skills:

• You have interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to deal with staff, deal effectively with contractors and general public
• You have persuasion/presentation skills to introduce new ideas
• You have negotiation and collaboration skills to negotiate changes to contracts
• You have analytical and problem solving skills to assess engineering and construction and maintenance issues having financial impacts

Computer Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of computer and standard desktop software applications (e.g. MS Office, MS Project) and industry specific software
