Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance, Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Cleanroom: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair etc... allowed, Loud Noises (Equipment/Machinery), Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.), Various outside weather conditions

Job Description

How will you make an impact?

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance for building facilities, prioritizing timeliness and cost-effectiveness, with a focus on Good Manufacturing Practices and productivity.

Shift schedule: 8 hours, Monday - Friday - day shift

What will you do:

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical components of building support equipment.
  • Maintain updated records of document changes such as manuals, schematics, drawings, etc.
  • Fabrication of auxiliary equipment, including stands, platforms, etc. as directed
  • Participate in process improvement by recommending Preventative Maintenance and Quality improvements
  • Utilize lathe, milling machine, drill press, grinder, Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Oxy-acetylene welding
  • Weld materials, including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, braising and silver solder
  • Participate in investigating equipment malfunctioning and damages
  • Read and interpret mechanical blueprints and schematics for building mechanical systems to ensure proper installation and repairs.
  • Ensure all mechanical work adheres to safety standards, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and facility-specific guidelines.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized mechanical work, ensuring compliance with facility requirements and minimizing disruption to operations. Document applicable work activities performed within a CMMS Program.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards.
  • Perform alternating or rotating shift work including weekend shift as well as requirement to work during maintenance shutdowns.

How will you get here:

Education:

High school diploma/General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is required
Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) (433A) is required

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as an Industrial Mechanic or equivalent maintenance experience, preferably in food, cosmetic or pharmaceutical industries.

Experience reading drawing and schematics is an asset. Maximo CMMS experience an asset.

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Familiar with GMPs, GAMP4/5 and 21 CFR part 11. Superior written and oral skills. Detail-oriented and organized, with a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness. Superior writing skills as well strong accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication and organizational skills. Strong judgment, decision making and trouble shooting skills. Ability to multi-task, meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficient with the English language.

Carry out all duties within strict compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific quality systems SOP's and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Actively engage in and adhere to departmental systems in order to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Be client and patient-conscious at all times. Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Models positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines of deliverables in a proactive manner. Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about manufacturing/office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of up to 40 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity; visual acuity to operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time. Usually in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, loud noise, bright lights, fumes or odour. Use of Personal Protective equipment is required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator.
