Job Description:

The position will involve working in a dynamic cross-functional team and project environment. The position will mandate the individual to interface with audio, video, optical, electrical, mechanical and software specialists. The successful candidate has a background in either electrical and/or software engineering and has an in-depth technical knowledge of the IMAX product portfolio offerings or similar Theatre products, services and solutions.

The successful candidate will contribute their technical product knowledge and experience to the resolution of issues on new product development initiatives or on the already established product portfolio. The candidate will have experience in the technology space and should be familiar with the product development lifecycle, concepts, and test methodologies.

What you'll be doing:

  • Accountable for developing a deep understanding of digital projection and audio systems, including the individual sub-components, in addition to the technologies used in the design, development and testing of these

  • Support the various Engineering and R&D disciplines in the development of requirements, test strategies, test execution and documentation as it relates to new product development or customized field solutions/integration

  • Implement minor design changes and documentation updates for systemic product issues

  • Provide information to the cross functional teams for known systemic issues based on Engineering findings in the form of troubleshooting guides, technical bulletins, user and installer manual updates

  • Actively fulfill all the necessary activities as they relate to the successful completion of an Engineering Change Request (ECR) cycle

  • Support product regulatory and safety certification

  • Provide rotational after hour on call support to Manufacturing, Installation, Post Production, Theatre Services and Operations teams

  • Prepare Engineering/Manufacturing documentation; schematics and design specifications, Bill of Materials (BOMs), systems requirements, test plans, and reports

  • First point of contact for escalations requiring Engineering attention for root cause analysis and corrective action

  • Review and analyze system performance and diagnostic logs to identify areas of concerns, then liaise with Engineering to identify causes of failures and necessary corrective actions

  • Analyze products (system and subsystem) performance metrics for trend analysis and failure reporting

  • Travel occasionally on site for troubleshooting, diagnostics, field testing, install, retrofit or support implementation and rollout strategies

What we're looking for:

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience on IMAX products or equivalent experience with Theatre systems

  • Sound knowledge in a variety of Engineering disciplines

  • Experience with scientific analysis programming environments (i.e., Matlab and Python).

  • Thorough understanding and hands-on experience in the product development lifecycle and all key deliverables throughout

  • Willing to work under schedule and pressure to achieve defined business goals

  • Ability to learn new complex concepts in a fast-paced environment

  • Hands-on experience and familiarity with oscilloscopes, analyzers and related engineering lab equipment

  • Self-motivated, self-starter with positive outlook and high energy

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong team player, with the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary design environment

  • Good personal organizational skills

  • Excellent priority management skills

  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to achieve issues resolution

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Bachelor's degree desired in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering/Science or similar field
