Job Description

Under the direction of the Director, Engineering Services, the Manager, Development Engineering is responsible for the management of the Development Engineering initiatives for the Town of Newmarket. This position is responsible for ensuring that the engineering elements of subdivision and site plan design meet the requirements of the Town.

Job Requirements
  1. Post-secondary degree as Civil Engineer or Civil Engineering Technologist, as well as OACETT Certification (CET) or membership in Professional Engineers Ontario (P.Eng.), accompanied by provincial government training and certification in related construction/inspection/installation courses.
  2. Progressively responsible experience at a senior supervisory level.
  3. Strong customer service orientation, interpersonal, consultative, problem-solving, analytical, negotiation, project management and presentation skills.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Thorough knowledge of budget preparation and management.
  6. Proficient in the use of MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  7. Broad knowledge of municipal infrastructure, planning, design, infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance.
  8. Demonstrated experience in the review of municipal engineering design submissions.
  9. Thorough working knowledge of municipal infrastructure construction, applicable legislation, regulations and engineering standards; working knowledge of local government functions and responsibilities, provincial government and associated agencies as they relate to municipal engineering responsibilities and labour/employee relations principles, practices and applicable legislation.
  10. Knowledge of applicable legislation, bylaws, legal proceedings and the ability to interpret legislation such as Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as the Employment Standards Act.
  11. Class G Driver's license in good standing and a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
  12. Due to the responsibilities of this position a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
