Under the direction of the Manager, or Supervisor, Water/Wastewater, the Technical Assistant, Water/Wastewater provides technical and labour duties to support the water/wastewater activities.
Enrolled in a university or college engineering program (relevant to the duties of the position is preferred). Successful candidate must hold a minimum Operator In Training (OIT) certification in Water Distribution and Waste Water Collection.
Understanding of water wastewater properties and legislation, infrastructure design principles, and asset management of municipal infrastructures.
Proficient in the use of a computer and word processing and spreadsheet applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, AutoCAD and GIS.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction or as part of a team, and to respond appropriately to any situation which may rise.
Ability to operate light equipment including pickup truck, and become familiar with operating other equipment related to water/waste water used in the department.
Standard First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
Class "G" driver's license in good standing.
Good communication skills including ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public and staff.
Knowledge of and/or experience with the MTO traffic control regulations and devices and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
