The company provides construction materials and services across Ontario through its Walker Construction subsidiary with locations in Niagara Falls and Owen Sound.

What you will be doing

As the Human Resources Business Partner for our Aggregates & Construction division you will work hand in hand with business leaders to evaluate workforce needs and be the point of contact for employee and labour relations for the business. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned, hands-on HR professional who thrives in a multi-tasking environment and is skilled at supporting an hourly unionized workforce to ensure a harmonious and supportive work environment.

As a member of the HRBP team and reporting to the Divisional Human Resources Manager you will be based at our Head Office in Niagara supporting operations in the Niagara and Essex regions. Up to two days working remotely is available, as well as travel to various regional Walker sites as required.

You are skilled at investigations, handling complaints, and union management. You know how to discuss grievances and create productive, harmonious relationships with union representatives. You have experience supporting the non-occupational disability management process.

You will provide guidance on compensation review/planning and the performance management process for salaried positions. You will partner with Supervisors on their recruitment needs and provide expert guidance and support on the selection and assessment of the best talent to meet business needs. In addition, you will support engaging onboarding programs that will make every new hire feel welcome and supported from day one.

You will also coach operations on the imperative health, safety, and compliance practices, ensuring that everyone stays safe and has a great employee experience. What you will bring

  • You have a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Human Resources, or related HR roles, with at least three (3) years in a HR Business Partner/Generalist role
  • You have expertise in supporting a unionized hourly workforce and a solid understanding of labour relations processes
  • Your advanced interpersonal and communication skills allow you to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • You are a champion for the employer value proposition, and a great candidate and employee experience
  • You are familiar with data analysis and use data and insights to drive decision-making and improvements
  • You are a strategic thinker with the ability to develop innovative solutions and influence Senior leaders
  • You take a proactive approach to supporting your clients and anticipate actions to meet their needs
  • Experience in heavy industry, construction or related sectors is considered a strong asset
  • Post secondary education in Business and/or Human Resources, CHRP is considered an asset
  • Vehicle for transportation and the ability to travel to Walker sites
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
