We are looking for a Tack Coat Truck Operator at our Walker Construction - Niagara location.

TACK COAT TRUCK OPERATOR

The job of the Tack Coat Truck Operator is to efficiently operate an asphalt distributor and maintain an exemplary level of workmanship and productivity.

This is a unionized position with a competitive hourly wage, benefit package, and pension. This is a seasonal role with opportunity for advancement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate the tack coat truck in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform Daily Trip Inspection in accordance with Schedule 1 and report deficiencies.
  • Load and unload truck with tack coat.
  • Lighting and monitoring onboard propane or diesel burner systems.
  • Route planning to maximize efficiency.
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures including traffic control plans.
  • Keep accurate records of time and material used.
  • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety program and encourage all employees, subcontractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Clean interior and exterior of truck as required.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others.
  • Be a representative of Walker Industries to customers as a frontline worker.

Skills

This position requires a demonstrated degree of initiative and judgment to organize and prioritize daily tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to details and ensure work is done correctly and thoroughly.
  • Have a sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
  • Possess a positive "can do" attitude.
  • Able to work with limited supervision and to take discretionary action as required.
  • Communicates with clarity.
  • Ability to use computer technology for electronic log completion and onboard touch screen controls.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

Qualifications

  • DZ driver's license with the ability to successfully operate all types of manual transmissions.
  • Experience within the road construction industry is an asset.
  • Completion of Transportation of Dangerous Goods training within two months of hire
  • Availability for all shifts that include days, nights, and out of town work on short notice.
