Company Description

Veolia is looking for an Operations Superintendent to join the team managing the Anaerobic Digestions plant in North York. The plant processes source separated organic waste (SSO) to produce biogas and composting material. The process is based on mechanical pre-treatment of the SSO followed by biological treatment of organic slurry (AD) and wastewater (MBR).

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

Main duties of the Operations Superintendent are, but not limited to:

  1. Gain deep understanding of all plant processes (AD, MBR, etc.), operations, equipment (centrifuges, presses, compressors, pumps, etc.), technologies and facility drawings to:
    1. Optimize the performance of the plant
    2. Lead the operations teams
    3. Develop operational expertise of the team
    4. Produce relevant operational documents
  2. Promotes and build a safety culture
  3. Direct the operations teams in the performance of their day to day activities;
  4. Organize the operational tasks and allocate them to the relevant teams;
  5. Oversee the effective operation of the plant in accordance with the safety and production requirements;
  6. Ensure the documents relating to the works (safety documentation, daily report, logbook, etc.) are correctly completed by the operators;
  7. Take control of the distribution of tasks to manage holidays and/or absences;
  8. Maintain recognition and discipline for all direct report
  9. Collaborate with the maintenance manager and maintenance team to ensure all required proactive and corrective maintenance are carried out in a timely manner.
  10. Prepares and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and other operational documents
  11. Develop and maintain operators' training and competencies on the plant operations
  12. Prepare different reports for the attention of the Plant Manager;
  13. Is capable of trouble shooting the plant when not operating at the expected level
  14. Recommend process optimization
  15. Is responsible for leading the Management of Change (MoC) processes
  16. Participate in the investigation of work-related accidents;
  17. All other related tasks.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in the fields of anaerobic digestion/biogas or wastewater treatment.
  • Technical certifications and/or diploma in operations or engineering;
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in a similar position;
  • Relevant experience in managing personnel;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Autonomy;
  • Customer oriented;
  • Good time management skills;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Demonstrate integrity, reliability and leadership;
  • Be proactive, organized, rigorous and resourceful;
  • Focus on results and human skills;
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint, Google Suite. (asset)

Work Environment:

Permanent, position, offered on a full-time basis from Monday to Friday. Incumbent must show flexibility in times of higher demand.

The job holder spends around 85% to 90% of their time supervising the personnel and guaranteeing customer satisfaction, while the rest of their time (10% to 15%) is spent updating files/reports/documents and preparing reports for their manager.
