Job Summary

The Supervisor, Maintenance is responsible for the supervision of the Production Maintenance team ensuring that all work performed is in compliance with Safe Work Practices, cGMP, Standard Operating Procedures, and company policies. As part of the Production leadership team, the main focus is responsibility for day-to-day Production Maintenance activities, developing systems and measurements to evaluate equipment and employee individual performance and contribution and lead initiatives (e.g. reliability) to facilitate improved productivity.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Recruit, train, develop and manage effectively the ongoing performance of their direct reports, which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Ensuring their Job Descriptions are reviewed, signed and sent to Employee Services, annually,
    • Reviewing and updating employee development plans, ensuring that all employees are properly trained and qualified to execute their duties,
    • Providing coaching, feedback and recognition.
  2. Responsible to ensure compliance of team members (direct reports) with Safety and Employment policies (e.g., Respect in the Workplace - Prevention of Violence and/or Harassment).
  3. Provide results oriented leadership that drives continuous improvement consistent with the Operations Strategic Plan and the Production Game Plan.
  4. Co-ordinate, assigns, supervise and review all maintenance activities and outcomes for Maintenance Mechanics and Electricians to ensure production equipment is in qualified condition.
  5. Develop systems and metrics to measure and evaluate both productivity and individual performance and contribution on an on-going basis.
  6. Use systems and metrics to guide the initiation and execution of safety, quality, productivity and continuous improvement initiatives in support of the Operations Strategic Plan and Production Game Plan.
  7. Provide strong leadership to the team that foster personal development, interaction and participation.
  8. Provide leadership as a member of the Production leadership team, building and maintaining positive relationships with key business partners within and outside of Production (e.g. Compounding, Dosing, Coating, Logistics, Antibiotics, QA, Validation, Formulation Development, Human Resources, etc.).
  9. Execute the maintenance strategy according to plan, through clear communication, meeting timelines and engaging the team at all levels while ensuring minimal disruption to the Production and Formulation Development schedules.
  10. Ensure department is professional, orderly and has integrity in compliance with all regulatory requirements (GMP, safety) and company policies.
  11. Responsible and accountable for supervising the team in accordance with Ontario Occupation Health and Safety Act, Apotex Inc Health and Safety policies and Safe Work procedures (SWPs).
  12. Provide recommendations to the next level of management regarding procedural and organizational changes.
  13. Evaluate the individual performance and contribution of all direct reports on an on-going basis and establish developmental plans in conjunction with individuals where required. Ensure employees participate/receive all relevant training within required timeframes.
  14. Develop and support continuous improvement and proactive activities within a maintenance environment including minimizing equipment downtime.
  15. Responsible for the resolution of all employee issues within the department with the involvement of the next level of management and human resources as required.
  16. Responsible for driving the key SAP maintenance metrics of proactive maintenance; PM compliance, schedule adherence, breakdowns, backlog and reliability.
  17. Ensures the maintenance team is aligned to all departmental and corporate strategic initiatives.
  18. Acts as a specialized manufacturing resource to senior management to support resolution of complex technical and equipment related issues.
  19. Serves as departmental representative in the absence of the department manager.
  20. Works as a member of a team to achieve all outcomes.
  21. Performs all work in support of our Corporate Values of Pride, Accountability, Integrity and Diligence.
  22. Performs all work in accordance with all established regulatory and compliance and safety requirements.
  23. All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant technical field, such as Engineering.
  • Three to five years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, particularly in the areas of approachability, dealing with direct reports, managing diversity and setting goals and objectives and measuring performance.
  • Demonstrate a high level of numerical, statistics, and trending skills.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office programs and exposure to SAP or other ERPs.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work within a team environment (as part of a team) as demonstrated through previous work experience.
  • Previous experience in the Food, Consumer Packaged Goods or Pharmaceutical industry an asset.
  • Ability to motivate self and others.
  • Proven experience in technical and other problem solving.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
