JOB SUMMARY

You are responsible for monitoring, controlling, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing all mechanical/electrical systems for the City’s building systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 2 year college diploma in Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning with CFC Certification

Minimum of 5 years of related maintenance and operational experience on building environmental systems and services

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Current Ontario Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certificate card
TSSA 4th class Operating/Power Engineer Certificate is an asset

KNOWLEDGE

  • First Aid
  • Computers (PC based)
  • Modern building, mechanical and electrical systems
  • Plumbing, HVAC systems
  • Electronic and pneumatic controls
  • Air handling systems
  • Welding, brazing and soldering
  • Preventative maintenance procedures
  • Safety procedures
  • Municipal and Provincial Health & Safety and Fire Regulations
  • D.D.C. Systems (Honeywell, Johnstons, Andover, Omeran and Landis & Gyr)
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems
  • Read blueprints (Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, Structural)
  • Work effectively with others
  • Write simple memoranda and maintain records on log sheets
  • Write legibly
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to conduct repairs from elevated platforms
  • Alertness dependability, initiative
  • Aptitude for mechanics & D.D.C. controls
  • Good physical condition

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
