What would my role be?

Reporting to the direction of the OHSS Workplace Safety Manager, you will:

  • Develop and coordinate individualized work conditioning programs focused on injury prevention and an early and safe return to work for employees with work-related injuries.
  • Assist in the smooth transition back to work for employees off work with non-work-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and make recommendations for ergonomic related hazards in a variety of hospital work environments.
  • Develop Safe Work Practice Standards for various departments within the hospital, and act as a resource for the implementation of these standards.
  • Develop and deliver in-services to promote proper body mechanics for prevention of workplace musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Complete and revise Physical and Cognitive Demands Analysis of all positions in the hospital in conjunction with management.
  • Investigate and conduct root-cause analysis of work-related musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Work within an interdisciplinary team consisting of the Occupational Health Nurse, WSIB Coordinator, Safety Team, Consulting Physician, and clerks.

How do I qualify?

Required:

  • Undergraduate degree in Kinesiology.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with injured populations (i.e., sports injuries, work and non work-related injuries).
  • Valid certificate of registration from the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Experience in the completion of Physical Demands Analysis and Ergonomic assessments.
  • Experience in developing and delivering education sessions.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a rehabilitation clinic.
  • Fluent in French and English.

What skills should I possess to succeed in the role?

  • Effective time management and organizational skills; able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling active participation as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet, and email.)
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology
