JOB SUMMARY


The Surveys and Mapping unit provides corporate legal survey and mapping services in support of the City's planning, development and infrastructure operations and to enable all City led construction projects.

You are responsible for researching title information and all available data pertaining to property rights, and obtaining and maintaining copies of all plans, deeds and other documents for reference purposes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Completion of 2 year community college diploma in Legal Surveying

Minimum of 3 years of related experience

KNOWLEDGE

  • The Ontario Land Registry Offices practices and procedures
  • Geographic subdivision of land
  • Provincial statutes pertaining to land registration
  • POLARIS system of land registration
  • Laser plotters, materials and supplies
  • Micrographic equipment and supplies
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Search records in the Land Registry Office
  • Prepare maps and sketches of land parcels
  • Interpret and plot legal descriptions
  • Prepare reports and summaries of chain of title
  • Operate laser plotters and make paper and Mylar duplicates
  • Operate microfilm printer
  • Classify plans and documents
  • Operate personal computer and related software to query databases and retrieve data
  • Must be thorough and meticulous
  • Courteous and informative manner in Land Registry Office dealings
  • Demonstrate initiative and responsibility
  • Effective interpersonal relationships

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
