Role Summary


The Back up Toolroom Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of Toolroom operations, including scheduling and prioritising of work, problem solving and general administrative duties when the Toolroom supervisor is not available. In addition, the Back up Supervisor will be responsible for the build and maintenance of tools, dies and other equipment.

As required the Back up Supervisor will assist with follow up of tooling timelines / assist with time sheets and general follow up items.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct activities of the department including the building and maintenance of machinery, tools and fixtures within the specified time constraints;
• Maintain close communication and coordination with other departments and shifts to ensure priorities are met;
• Ensure that quality standards are communicated and enforced within the department;
• Analysis new tooling designs for quality, technical and economic feasibility;
• Review budgetary spending per tool and establish most efficient way to produce on time on budget.
• Responsible for the outsourcing and supplier selection of all tooling.
• Meet budgetary spending targets for the departmental cost center and or individual project.
• Responsible for the tracking of all tooling for quality, tooling tryout and meeting customer expected dates.
• Responsible for providing quotes and engineering estimates as required for new tooling.
• Manage the daily activities and assignments of all toolroom employees. This includes time card management, pay cheque distribution, vacation scheduling and attendance monitoring;
• Ensure that quality standards are communicated and enforced within the department.
• Ensure that safety standards are identified, communicated and enforced within the department.
• Ensure that environmental standards are identified, communicated and enforced within the department.
• Maintain housekeeping standards within the department.
• Maintain communication and utilize the expertise of other departments as required.
• Ensure the efficient execution of responsibilities as outlined in the job descriptions for each position within the department.
• Ensure compliance with defined Business Management and Environmental Management Systems requirements.
• Work in compliance with all health, safety and environmental legislation and ensure that departmental employees are trained appropriately.
• Provide support for the continuous improvement initiatives within Magna Techform.
• Provide support in the attainment of Magna Techform's operating system goals as outlined be the key graphs.
• Carry out all duties focusing on the goal of internal and external customer satisfaction.
• Be flexible with hours to meet desired toolroom output.
• Other duties as may be assigned.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

• Working knowledge of tool materials, tool room equipment and best practices to manufacture tooling and equipment.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in skilled trade or equivalent is required;
• post-secondary education in a management related program would be an asset;
• a minimum of three (3) years experience in a tool shop environment is required;
• full knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is required;
• knowledge of CNC principles is required;
• knowledge of CAD/CAM would be a definite asset;
• education or equivalent experience in hydraulics/pneumatics, electrical and/or welding is an asset;
• excellent written and verbal communication skills are required;
• attention to detail is key;
• an individual in this position must be capable of initiating and directing their work with no supervision.
• Knowledge of MS office applications is required;
