What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• provide leadership in the development of park operations, management directions, resource management plans and public consultation programs
• analyze operational issues/problems and the consistency of program delivery to make appropriate recommendations for the implementation of solutions
• consult with internal stakeholders on current operational procedures and practices to advise on amendments that can be made
• monitor operational procedures and projects to provide recommendations on park efficiencies and procedures that can be implemented
• prepare special reports, park development plans and contracts for analysis and review related to park operations and contract management
• participate in the development of maintenance and capital project requirements through consultations with senior management and advise on project requirements

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• You have or the ability to obtain Emergency First Aid certificate

Parks management expertise:

• You possess demonstrated knowledge of park management, operations and administration.
• You are knowledgeable about planning processes and procedures and natural resource inventory techniques.

Consultation and communication skills:

• You have well-honed communication skills to provide recommendations and advice to senior management and park staff.
• You have proven consultation and facilitation skills to foster and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as discuss projects, objectives and park initiatives.
• You have proven presentation skills to provide staff with training.
• You have the demonstrated ability to produce reports, work plans, correspondence and contracts for project implementation.

Leadership skills:

• You demonstrate leadership and coordination skills to provide guidance and recommendations on projects and plans.
• You can lead staff through audits and compliance issues while also implementing and maintaining quality standards.
• You are experienced with enforcing policy changes as required from external audits.

Project management skills:

• You possess project management skills to assist in the organization, coordination and delivery of tasks, audits and policy changes.
• You possess knowledge of financial and contract procurement and management techniques, policies and procedures to ensure the successful implementation and completion of projects.

Technical knowledge:

• You possess basic knowledge of construction and development techniques and procedures as well as being familiar with sewage and water treatment procedures and guidelines.
• You have knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply various legislation such as the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, Building Code, Fire Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Environmental Assessment Act as they relate to development projects.
