What can I expect to do in this role?

In this position, you will:

• Create and maintain spatial data to support Ministry Geographic Information System (GIS) & Location Referencing services and cartographic products
• Maintain Ministry reference points, distance measures, highway routes, interchange diagrams and other linear referencing system information
• Provide advice regarding the preparation and production of cartographic products
• Analyze updates to location referencing information for province-wide consistency

How do I qualify?

Geographic Information System (GIS) Knowledge

• You have knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of geodetic datum, map projections, and linear referencing.
• You have sound knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of GIS to create, maintain and publish spatial data, location referencing data and metadata.
• You have knowledge of policy, standards and procedures respecting spatial data, GIS and information technology to maintain spatial data and provide technical advice
• You have knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of conventional and digital cartography to produce products and provide technical advice.

Research and Analytical Skills

• You have developed analytical skills to review/evaluate data, identify issues and recommend a course of action.
• You have strong research and analytical skills to evaluate problems/issues, and recommend solutions to unit lead, manager, and clients for issues raised by internal and external clients.

Communication Skills

• You utilize strong oral communication skills to present recommendations and options, provide technical assistance and guidance, and to participate on various committees, task forces, and process review teams.
• You utilize strong written communication skills to prepare various reports and correspondence and to present recommendations and options to management.

Systems and Database Skills

• You have experience using GIS software to maintain spatial data and create maps products.
• You have experience using databases, computer applications and internet and web applications in order to maintain data, and analyze data and prepare reports to meet client needs.
