Your Contribution

As a Civil Technician, you will work in collaboration with the Engineering, Instrumentation & Monitoring team.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Apply and promote Englobe’s health and safety rules.
  • Assisting Project Managers, Engineers and Technicians in fulfilling multi-disciplinary civil, construction risk and structural health monitoring, geotechnical, environmental, geosciences, remediation, groundwater, and soil related projects across Southern Ontario.
  • Perform jobsite optical Total Station and GPS surveys for infrastructure such as roadways, railway tracks, bridges, buildings, etc. Including settlement monitoring, monitoring network layout, and control baseline surveys. Complete calculations and reports in the field using data collector software.
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, and monitoring of geotechnical and structural health instrumentation sensors and data collection networks.
  • Coordinating and performing pre-construction condition survey building inspections, vibration and noise monitoring of buildings and structures for construction projects.
  • Carrying out field geotechnical and environmental materials testing and sampling at work sites, potentially including soil compaction testing, concrete testing, asphalt field compaction and sampling, and groundwater testing and sampling.
  • Recording test data and preparing factual reports, summaries, data sheets or graphs for interpretation of test results by the supervisor.
  • Consistently executing prescribed company technical procedures, safe work practices and work plans while completing field, laboratory, and office work.
  • Help maintain databases of records for pre-condition survey files, measurement data, calibration certificates, equipment manuals and applicable standards.
  • Participating in project management, site and staff planning meetings.
  • Handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external contacts; and,
  • Performing other related duties as required.


Your Profile

  • Understanding of civil engineering and construction.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to the team’s goals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong technical writing skills, ability to present information concisely and clearly in reports.
  • Proficient with use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);
  • Ability to handle multi-tasking and maintain focus in a busy workplace.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Must be available on occasion to work evenings, nights, and weekends to meet project needs.
  • Ability to problem-solve and tackle new assignments effectively and efficiently.
  • This job is based in Hamilton but does, on occasion, require working at other locations throughout the GTA, Southern, and Northern Ontario for up to several weeks at a time.
