Job Duties
•Removes snow and ice from vehicular and exterior pedestrian areas with a variety of hand tools and motorized equipment to maintain safe access;
•Maintains clear, unobstructed access to fire hydrants and standpipes year round;
•Maintenance of roadways, parking lots, culverts, catch basins, sidewalks, ditches, etc. as required;
•Maintains exterior grounds as required;
•Maintains outdoor planters;
•Collects and removes litter and rubbish from exterior grounds;
•Maintains artificial lake, including control of its water level;
•Maintains, inspects, services and repairs grounds equipment as required;
•Assists the Grounds Lead Hand in the investigation and solution of problems related to snow removal and the maintenance and upkeep of University grounds;
•Operates a variety of grounds related equipment, including but not limited to trucks, tractors, loaders, backhoes, mowers, chainsaws, forklift, etc.;
•Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
•Minimum grade 12 education
•Experience in grounds maintenance and/or landscaping;
•Ability to perform skilled tasks in the landscaping and grounds maintenance area;
•Must have a good work record and good record of attendance and punctuality;
•Strong communication skills, both oral and written;
•Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions;
•Ability to perform heavy manual work such as shovelling gravel on a continuous basis; loading and unloading material such as bags of salt or earth on and off a truck; lifting, carrying and/or pushing/pulling heavy objects such as bales of peat moss, barricades, etc.;
•Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including the ability to perform heavy manual work consisting of lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling and very heavy work in excess of 100lbs on an occasional basis;
•General knowledge of recognized practices and safe work habits and techniques employed in the application of fertilizers, herbicides, and other chemicals used in the maintenance of grounds;
•Must have current WHMIS training or must successfully complete training during the trial/probation period.
•Must have a valid driver's license;
•Ability to deal courteously with staff, students and the general public;
•Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, its regulations and other health and safety related legislation and standards.
Working Conditions
●Primarily an 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift, Monday to Friday
