General Accountability

Reporting to either a Manager or a Senior within the IT Services department, the Associate IT Technician is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the organization's IT systems, including hardware, software, and networks. They provide technical support to users, resolve issues, ensure system performance, and assist in the deployment of new technologies. The incumbent also provides first-line technical and hotline support for computer hardware and software, including incident identification, triage, tracking, resolution, and follow-up to maintain service levels. This role encompasses various technician functions within Server Technology, Network Services, End User Devices, and Service Desk sections, offering exposure to multiple IT operations areas and career paths. Key Job Functions

Duties include:

Server Technology:

  • Install and configure server hardware and operating systems.

  • Update firmware, apply patches, and ensure system security.

  • Perform business continuity and disaster recovery tests.

Network Services:

  • Provide network support, including performance measurement and maintenance.

  • Diagnose and resolve network issues, both remotely and on-site.

  • Assist in developing network support plans and implementing technology solutions.

End User Devices:

  • Support hardware (desktops, laptops, tablets) and software, including Microsoft Office.

  • Provide first-line support, analyze issues, and assess hardware for repair or replacement.

  • Install, update, and configure hardware and software; maintain asset database.

Service Desk:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for IT issues, offering remote and in-person support.

  • Strive for first-level resolution; escalate and follow up as needed.

  • Communicate system notifications and provide user training.

Common to All:

  • Carrying out various administrative duties, such as time accounting, work plan formulations, group meetings, inter-site visits and hardware repairs;

  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Graduation of June 2025 or within past 3 years from a university degree, community college diploma, or technical diploma in Computer Studies, or have relevant working experience in the computer service field;

  • Must possess a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License.

Additional Requirements

  • This position may be required to provide off hours and weekend on call support;

  • Must have experience working with hardware and software (Microsoft applications, Windows 10 / 11 operating system, etc.);

  • Requires a sound knowledge of desktop equipment including hardware, software products and related applications;

  • Must possess good technical knowledge and a strong customer service focus, to showcase excellent customer service and customer relation skills;

  • Must possess good analytical, problem solving, organization, interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and administrative skills;

  • Ability to maintain positive work and customer relationships, and be a team player.
