About the Position

The Audio-Visual Technical Specialist - is a member of the THQ (Territorial Headquarters) Communications Secretariat (Marketing/Communications Team) and is responsible for the audio and visual support and execution of live and streamed events as well as recorded video and audio projects for The Salvation Army. This individual reports to the Senior Media Producer.

With guidance from the Senior Media Producer, and/or the Director of Internal Communications (or Territorial Director of Marketing and Communications (NDMC) for externally facing projects), the Audio Visual Technical Specialist is tasked with the operating, planning, engineering, coordinating, and maintenance of equipment and technologies pertaining to audio visual support for meetings by providing PowerPoint operation, livestreaming software for You Tube, Facebook and similar, presentation software such as ProPresenter, EasyWorship, TelePrompt Pro, and similar.

The individual must be familiar with audio mixing and audio boards such as Allen and Heath, as well as camera switchers, and lighting consoles. A secondary portfolio is executing post-production of video resources required by the organization. Postproduction duties include but are not limited to video editing and post audio production.

Livestreamed events, pre-recorded items and live events are used to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders, build public awareness of Salvation Army programs and initiatives, and increase fundraising results as well as inform staff and The Salvation Army Community at large.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Media Production:

  • Performs the following production functions: Specializes in all live productions including webcasts and multi camera shoots.
  • Specializes in event technical support for Live, LiveStreamed, pre-recorded or other.
  • Provides speaker support such as operating PowerPoint, EasyWorship and ProPresenter software.
  • Provides speaker support such as operating audio board, switcher, lighting console, PTZ cameras, Livestreaming software.
  • Provides general media production support as needed.
  • Operates video cameras such as Sony XDCams, Sony A7III, Sony FX30 or similar.
  • Operates Gimbals.
  • Operates audio equipment such as wireless lapel mics, boom op, location sound recorders, and similar.
  • Shoots & edits raw footage; adds audio and special effects; adds titles and graphics; produces and edits the master video.
  • Ensures compliance with established video production standards as well as the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Assists in all regular video productions which includes shooting, editing, and mastering.
  • Serves as a member of the media crew. This may include camera operation, location audio, post-audio, lighting and general support duties with occasional travel for location recording.
  • Partners with others in the Marketing and Communications Team with the day-today operations of the media studio.
  • Assists with the ongoing development of video production standards and procedures for Territorial Headquarters, and the future implementation throughout the Territory.
  • Assists in the production of various video projects which may involve travel throughout Canada and occasionally internationally, as well as occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Participates in all live productions including webcasts and multi camera shoots. Serves as a member of the general film crew with emphasis on capturing raw footage. This to include camera person, audio, lighting and general support duties with occasional travel for location filming.

Equipment Management and Maintenance:

  • Under the supervision of the Senior Media Producer, may plan and implement activity in the media studio spaces and storage areas. This includes all recording preparation with lighting, cameras, audio, sets and props.
  • Responsible for the care, inventory and maintenance of equipment and studio facility.
  • Responsible for the inventory of equipment, cables, sets and props, and records their use. Responsible for the safety, maintenance and security of all equipment in the studio and contained storage areas. Provides similar support when on location, to include the gathering and issue of all needed equipment for a video recording session.
  • Provides preparation support, organizes transportation, and assists in load in/load out of equipment when at Salvation Army events that are recorded and/or webcast either at THQ or on location.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Video Production or Communications

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices and comprehensive skill with Adobe CC suite, specifically: PremierPro, AfterEffects, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator and the ability to utilize them with proficiency.
  • Knowledge of established video production practices and procedures to ensure compliance with general industry standards.
  • Thorough working knowledge of both mirrorless cameras and prosumer video cameras.
  • Thorough working knowledge of fundamental principles of videography such as lighting, lenses, aperture, ISO, and audio practices and use of production equipment.
  • Working knowledge of studio switching, audio mix, and live streaming platforms.
  • Working knowledge of equipment such as gimbals, shoulder rigs, sliders, grip and lighting equipment.
  • Some knowledge of copyright laws.
  • Manage project schedules, critical paths to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Ability to maintain a well-organized and cataloged equipment inventory system.
  • Ability to organize equipment for major live production events, including webcasts.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team in producing a variety of high-quality videos, including those of an information, educational and promotional nature.
  • Ability to work effectively with outside vendors.
  • Ability to create high-quality video capturing.
  • Ability to develop media production standards for The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to serve as a technical resource throughout the territory related to live, livestream and pre-recorded media production.
  • Ability to understand media storage workflows and provide assistance to the libraries.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality control and repairs of all equipment.
  • Adherence to the values of The Salvation Army and Fundraising Code of Ethics and a strong desire to participate in the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Understanding of The Salvation Army and its culture, and able to work in a consultative, diplomatic manner.

  • Knowledge of French an asset.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $54,176 to $67,720 with the ability to progress to a maximum of $81,264. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
