Pay Range - $36.50/per hour (on January 1, 2024, rate increase to $37.10/per hour).

  • Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Electrician (309A) add $1.00 to base rate when Licensed Tradesperson holds both tickets (as per Collective Bargaining Agreement UFCW Local 1006A).
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning add $1.00 to base rate.
  • Refrigeration B and $1.00 to base rate.
  • Refrigeration Operator Class "A" Certification add $1.00 to base rate.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Engineer - Maintenance, this individual will perform regular inspections, repair, and replace, and maintain work when necessary to prevent breakdowns and major overhauls on mechanical plant equipment on shift.

Major Duties

  • Ensures compliance with TSSA regulations.
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance, clean/lubricate boilers, refrigeration, HVAC, fuel, water treatment, compressed air systems, auxiliaries, and distribution systems, housekeeping throughout plant.
  • Installs mechanical systems throughout the plant and assists Industrial Mechanic Millwrights.
  • Checks and Adjusts (calibrates) heating/cooling systems, brine chiller, humidification, air handling equipment, Kemco hot water system, repair high pressure hoses and pumps, scald and de-hair tanks systems after installation and makes necessary changes, adjustments, and modifications to obtain desired results.
  • Maintains repairs, troubleshoots electrical problem, routine preventive maintenance, install and repair water/drainage piping, compressed air piping repairs, ammonia piping system repairs.
  • Must be proficient at checking and inspecting all aspects of a refrigeration system including equipment, detectors, and delivery systems.
  • Must be proficient at welding.
  • Checks and tests for leaks, sets, and adjusts controls and regulators and checks operating adjustments as required.
  • Checks and replaces mechanical components and controls.
  • Monitor and records flow rates, pressures, and temperatures within specific cold chain parameters.
  • Ensure proper use and storage of approved chemicals.
  • Follows GMP rules and GMP for Maintenance rules while performing repairs and PM tasks.
  • Ensures temporary repairs are completed in a manner that does not create potential food safety hazards.
  • Informs Sanitation or Production when repairs are completed so that proper sanitation of surfaces can be completed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Certified Refrigeration Mechanic and a Millwright license. Electrician experience is an asset.
  • The successful candidate will have a minimum 5 years in a similar role.
  • Must be able to work effectively with little direct supervision.
  • Must be organized, detail orientated and an effective multi-tasker.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment under time constraints.
  • The ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration and particularly ammonia refrigeration is must.
  • Understanding of blueprints, drawings, schematics, P&ID's.
  • General mechanical knowledge, including knowledge of electricity, motors, gear ratios, valves, conveyors, pumps, VFD's, PLC's, control wiring, refrigeration, and hydraulics.
  • Basic Computer skills: Outlook, Word, Excel, and preferably maintenance software such as MP2.
  • Must be able to take direction from management and maintenance supervisor.
  • Flexibility with hours, including being on call when needed.
