Responsibilities

  • Support proactive responses to Client requests at all levels and coordination of program-wide tasks on major infrastructure projects
  • Establish a mechanism to ensure regular dialogue with key stakeholders and third parties to promote problem-solving, team working, and risk sharing
  • Lead external relationships important for project delivery e.g. statuatory authorities
  • Underpin and communicate the strategic plan and vision
  • Undertake program-wide tasks ensuring coordination across all projects
  • Builds and leads a multi-disciplinary team including engineering managers, project managers, deputy project managers, and other experts as required
  • Produce program-level change papers ensuring the change control process is followed
  • Support project managers in delivering the project-specific scope
  • Plan and secure resources and expertise as required to deliver the project
  • Coordinate and direct the delivery team
  • Coordinate and foster a teamwork approach, as an exemplary model of living our values and code of ethics
  • Manage the project manager's performance of delegated responsibility
  • Manage the effective onboarding of new staff members
  • Train new and newly promoted staff and set key performance indicators to measure your team and individual success
  • Check-in with individual staff members regularly to ensure they have the tools and guidance they require to succeed in their roles
  • Communicate with other levels of management to ensure cohesiveness within the organization
  • Select the right individuals for each task and communicate the goals and objectives required. Set appropriate deadlines and motivate employees to reach each objective, offering guidance when required
  • Manage the rollout and maintenance of company-wide initiatives and communications
  • Promote a positive working environment and create a setting that fosters idea sharing
  • Develop and promote employee engagement ideas for your team
  • Ensure appropriate program and/or project management framework is in place, incorporating a suitable Gateway review process
  • Prepare and maintain the program brief, business case, execution strategy, or equivalent
  • Appraising options and submitting for approval
  • Instigate the value management strategy
  • Ensure adequate governance and change control processes are embedded
  • Determine and manage risks, issues, and opportunities
  • Manage the program budget, including risk allowances
  • Act as the sole point of contact with the project managers
  • Drive the ongoing safety of all project team members
  • Establish formal reporting arrangements on program or project progress
  • Define criteria for control and management of the program or project
  • Support the project managers in the resolution of day-to-day issues and problems using a common approach
  • Ensure key decisions are made on time

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Civil Engineering within the Transit sector, having direct involvement with Subway Engineering and Construction. The preferred candidate will come with International experience, bringing new and innovative ideas to our team
  • Experience in managing transit projects in excess of multi-million dollars
  • Must have obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree (Civil Engineering)
  • Has obtained an Asset Management Certification (IAM Certificate)
  • Experienced in the preparation and maintenance of program briefs, business cases, and execution strategy
  • Strategic and detailed understanding of construction methodology, innovative delivery methods, planning, delivery, technology, site logistics, contract commercial and legal issues procedures and management
  • Demonstrated experience in managing program/project budgets and associated risks
  • Experienced in leading large teams (20+) with a demonstrated willingness to step in to support department deliverables when required
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills with demonstrated ability to manage competing time-sensitive priorities
  • Experience delegating tasks and ensuring everyone has a balanced workload
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Skilled in the area of conflict resolution with the aptitude to prevent escalation
  • Experienced in making decisions quickly and effectively while always keeping the company's best interests in mind
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, allowing employees to understand their directions at all times
  • Experience providing effective mentorship and guidance to individuals and teams. Sharing knowledge with those in your department to enhance performance and provide career development and new opportunities to staff starting at the onboarding process
  • Skilled in working under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to build and foster an inclusive, positive team environment, managing teams through the priorities for the day, week, month, year
  • Must be results-driven
  • Experienced in providing constructive feedback with the proven aptitude to coach and guide staff through everyday and tactical challenges
