What You Will Do

Reporting to the Chief Engineer - Structural, the incumbent is responsible for preparing conceptual and final structural engineering designs for transit related structures. The Design Engineer-Structural reviews the work of Design Draftspersons and Design Technologists in preparing structural drawings and specifications, reviews the work of outside consultants, assists in the preparation of standard drawings, and performs field reviews and shop drawing reviews. The incumbent demonstrates behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment and helps to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC's commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC's policies. The Design Engineer-Structural participates in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

• A University Degree in Civil Engineering specializing in structures, combined with several years of related experience in a multidisciplinary design environment;
• Must be licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario and hold a P.Eng designation;
• Possession of a valid Class "G" Driver's license for the Province of Ontario, and use of own vehicle for occasional site visits and inspections during non-revenue hours (approx. 2am to 6am);
• In-depth knowledge of Civil Engineering (Structural) principles, methods and practices for the design and construction of transit facility major structures;
• Comprehensive working knowledge of applicable codes and standards that govern structural design for buildings and bridges e.g. National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code, Canadian Highway and Bridge Design Code, CSA A23.1/2/3, CSA S-16, CSA S413, etc.;
• Familiarity with computational tools such as STAAD PRO, SAP2000 and S-Concrete is essential;
• Good working knowledge of designs in plain and reinforced concrete and structural steel, as well as exposure to the applied design of pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete, masonry and timber structures.
