Job Description

What is the opportunity?

Do you dream of solving real people problems that have global impact on an enterprise-scale? Are you passionate about building meaningful employee experiences? As the Employee Experience Journey Design Lead, you will be at the forefront of creating and shaping unparalleled employee experiences that inspire our people. You will create employee journeys that align with our organizational culture and employee value proposition.

This opportunity combines strategic vision with hands-on delivery and works cross-functionally to deliver impactful experiences across the employee life cycle.

This role sits in the Employee Experience Design and Insights team (EXDI) within our broader Employee Experience team.

What will you do?

We want to create digital-first, consumer-grade, frictionless experiences for our employees. That's where you come in. The Employee Experience Journey Design Lead reimagines how HR services are delivered and builds exceptional experiences across our employee journeys. You will collaborate with a team of highly motivated designers in your Agile squad to make work efficient, effective, and enjoyable. You will provide delivery experience to stand-up high-performing squads and operationalize the employee journey.

What you would work on:

Design Strategy & Delivery

  • Reimagine the moments that matter in the employee lifecycle from onboarding to exit.
  • Provide delivery experience and design direction to promote design craft excellence and consistency aligned to design guidelines.
  • Act as the voice of the employee, influencing organizational leaders to prioritize people-first changes to the existing employee lifecycle.
  • Drive journey road mapping and integrated planning in alignment with business and technology to create and deliver on established OKRs.
  • Formulate and validate design hypotheses through iterative MVP releases to align business objectives with employee needs and feedback.
  • Gather qualitative and quantitative data through surveys, focus groups, and interviews to understand employee needs and pain points.
  • Leverage digital tools and platforms to create integrated seamless employee experiences (e.g. Workday, Service Now, AI assistants, etc.)
  • Define success metrics and use data to iterate and improve employee journey initiatives.
  • Work in Agile squads with a rapid test-and-learn approach to build, deliver and refine the right solutions for the right audiences in the right ways.

Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Represent the Employee Experience Design & Insights practice at a leadership level within cross-functional HR teams and with critical senior and executive-level stakeholders.
  • Work at the front line to position the design practice as a trusted business partner that provides measurable business value.
  • Facilitate demos, presentations, workshops, and stakeholder sessions with all partners, including business, HR COEs, technology, risk, legal, etc. around journey objectives and priorities.
  • Empower teams to succeed with a shared vision; delegating authority and removing obstacles that hinder progress.
  • Establish cadence for regular check-ins with designers and empower the team to manage the day-to-day tasks, checking in often enough to ensure they are on track to deliver value against our business objectives without micro-managing.
  • Provide career, leadership development, coaching and guidance through recurring team and one-on-one check-ins. Manage, mentor, motivate, lead, and inspire the team to constantly deliver excellence in performance and in behaviours aligned with RBCs Leadership Model.
  • Build the capability of designers across the EXDI team by providing open and candid feedback, direction, and coaching.
  • Aid in the sourcing, recruiting, hiring, and retaining of high performing talent.

What skills and experience do you need to succeed?

  • BA or graduate degree in Design, Psychology, Human Factors, Industrial Design, or comparable work experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a designer including experiences leading and delivering complex projects in an enterprise environment.
  • Passion for learning about people and behavior in the worlds they inhabit and getting at the motivations that lie beneath.
  • Ability to influence and introduce new concepts and ideas with stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working on ambiguous problems with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Experience coaching, providing feedback and building capability in others.
  • Comfortable challenging the status quo to build new and innovative ways forward.
  • Experience working in Agile.
  • Technically proficient with design research methods, techniques, and tools.
  • Display great storytelling and communication skills.

What's in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

  • You'll find yourself in a culture where designers feel included, valued, and heard; in a supportive environment surrounded by peers who exceed in their area of expertise.
  • You'll work on solutions used across the enterprise by our employees and contribute to a company that truly values employee experience.
  • You'll be part of a team that is pushing the boundaries of employee experience design as we strive to improve the journeys in the employee lifecycle.
  • You will work in a high-impact function that connects directly to company success and employee well-being.
  • You will work with leaders and decision-makers to drive cultural transformation.
