What You Will Do

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, the incumbent is responsible for performing structural design work, structural evaluation and reviews of designs produced by others to ensure that they meet TTC and industry design standards and maintainability standards in a cost effective manner. The incumbent liaises with the Department's structural maintenance function in order to ensure maintenance issues associated with supporting structures are accounted for and incorporated as these designs are reviewed at various progress milestones. The work also includes the responsibility for design functions associated with maintenance and rehabilitation of the Commission's existing subway and surface structures (e.g. tunnels, bridges, stations, track support and elevated structures) and providing structural expertise for the development of designs, specifications, technical reports, standards and assistance with all aspects of the budgeting and approval process.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your application will show that you are registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is mandatory;
  • Your educational background in civil/structure engineering or the equivalent is integral and will contribute to the success in this role;
  • Your application will also demonstrate your experience with several years of structural maintenance/design experience;
  • Your knowledge of civil/structural engineering principles, methods and practices as they relate to the structural design, maintenance and rehabilitation of bridge, building and underground structures is required;
  • You have demonstrated experience in structural surveying and tests; knowledge of applicable current regulatory design codes, e.g. Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and others;
  • An asset would be knowledge of Asset Management principals and how they apply to Infrastructure; experience in brownfield projects is an asset;
  • Sound judgement, well developed analytical, problem solving, verbal communication and technical report writing skills;
  • Ability to coordinate the efforts of others in order to accomplish objectives;
  • Ability to coordinate and direct the activities of those assisting in structural design work (i.e., consultants, contractors etc.);
  • Proficiency in computers and computerized applications related to the work (e.g., SAP2000, STAAD, CMMS, MAXIMO, CADD Systems);
  • Must have a valid Province of Ontario Class 'G' Driver's Licence, may be required to use own automobile in order to travel to the different project work sites.
