Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for an Engineering Technologist to join our team.

What You Will Do

  • Provide technical support and expertise to those involved in the procurement, inspections, diagnoses, repairs, maintenance, overhaul, rebuilding, designing, improving and supporting of all operating systems associated with their specific area;
  • Ensure requirements and standards are met; conducts operational tests, quality inspections, technical problem solving, equipment performance reviews, quality assurance activities, work method development and database administration; creates, revises and administers technical documentation.
  • The incumbent may be required to work at various carhouse locations within the Streetcar Maintenance Department, based on operational needs.
  • Diagnose, correct and eliminate non-routine complex failures on area specific systems; investigate and correct unusual, difficult or repeating problems on equipment; correct deficiencies with work methods, job plans, procedures, modifications etc.
  • Develop, write and maintain accurate and concise maintenance, overhaul, exchange, test/failure, Standard Operating Procedures, Technical Reports, technical Bulletins and SWIS documents to meet departmental goals and objectives.
  • Provide direction and technical support to management and union employees with respect to the diagnosing and repair of Rail Vehicles and their components.
  • Conduct quality assurance activities, to determine the effectiveness of inspection, repair and overhaul of Rail Vehicles (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, structural, electrical, electronic) HVAC and accessory systems.
  • Identify unusual problems that are the responsibility of and require further investigation by suppliers and/or external authorities, and working with them to ensure satisfactory resolution of issues.
  • Advise management on the significance and severity of equipment defects.
  • Assist in the continued development, improvement of the Maximo Work Order system and on-going review of the data integrity.
  • Research parts supply issues and taking action as necessary, and identifying opportunities to reduce costs through researching and recommending alternative suppliers and parts.
  • Research, develop and purchase special tools and shop equipment as required.
  • Substitute for the Foreperson during periods of absence, as required.

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Program in the fields of Electrical /Electronic or Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred.
  • CGSB Certificate Level 1 Ultrasonic and CGSB Certificate Magnetic Particle Level 2, considered an asset.
  • OACETT certification as an Engineering Technologist considered an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering design principles and maintenance practices utilized in facilities where modern vehicles and transit fleets are maintained.
  • Detailed knowledge in the areas of general mechanical/hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and practices of vehicle and component testing programs and procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the latest diagnostic technologies and be able to diagnose and correct failures in any systems and components utilized on shop equipment.
  • Sound judgement and well-developed problem solving, personal computing, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a valid non-probationary class "G" Ontario Driver's license and will be required to use own automobile in order to travel to various work locations away from the home work location, or to attend meetings etc.
  • The successful candidate may be required to attend and successfully complete TTC in-house programs related to the work.
