Career Opportunity

The Bus Maintenance and Shops Department is currently looking for a Fleet Manager to oversee its bus fleet, and non-revenue vehicles.

What You Will Do

  • Manage TTC's city bus fleet; plan, direct, manage, staff and control the daily activities and administration of the respective areas of responsibility.
  • Supervise a team to develop and track budgets, procurement plans, rebuild and retrofit programs, vehicle licensing and servicing and various contracts, vehicle work order support and departmental Information Technology (ITS) requirements.
  • Provide overall management of TTC's non-revenue vehicle and equipment fleet.
  • Executing strategic project plans and project management activities for major vehicle rebuild and retrofit programs
  • Ensure Federal, Provincial and Municipal regulations pertinent to licenses, certificates, stickers, inspections, repair, maintenance, health, safety, labour and environment are enforced and union agreements adhered to.
  • Provide expertise to staff, management and other key stakeholders regarding policies, procedures, technical requirements, equipment, systems related to area of responsibility as required.
  • Ensure proper utilization of the Vehicle Maintenance Management Information System, i.e., ensure labour time, repair order and other documents and daily reports are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Develop and manage capital budgets for asset procurement and maintenance programs as well as develop and manage operating budgets for the maintenance of the revenue bus fleet.
  • Provide back up support by performing all aspects of the supervisory role (i.e., plans, organizes, assigns tasks, administers discipline, attendance, opens buildings as necessary) and in the absence of the Department Head.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Develops and maintains a long range city bus fleet plan to ensure future service growth, customer service initiatives and maintenance requirements.
  • Develops strategic long range vehicle fleet plans, and budgets and schedules.
  • Provides/ensures non-revenue vehicle and equipment plans include but are not limited to procurement, leasing, budgeting and scheduling plans.
  • Optimizes the cost effectiveness of procurement plans; and provides recommendations on the general condition of vehicles for purposes of determining retirement strategies.
  • Represents the TTC for on-site visits by representatives of the Environment, Transportation, and Labour Ministries, the Toronto Police Services, and other agencies.
  • Identifies opportunities through the analysis and undertaking of requisite activities, to improve the maintainability of buses through implementation of changes affecting the ease of performing maintenance tasks.
