Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for a Foreperson, Communications to join our team!

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Supervisor - Communications, you will be responsible for the planning, scheduling, oversight and general supervision of the Communications section workforce (comprised of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Transit Control, Radio Shop and Cable Shop) regarding the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of various communication and safety/security systems.

You will oversee and supervise the daily activities of a unionized workforce conducting work on various communications and safety/security systems throughout the TTC's properties and facilities, including Central Office Signaling System, SCADA Alpha Servers, Display Services, PLC Based E.T. Systems, fire detection and prevention systems, intrusion and burglar alarms, CAD/AVL Infrastructure, TETRA Radio, surface/subway, revenue/non-revenue vehicle communication systems, CCTV, DWA, WAW TDM, EMS, Wi-Fi, and AP units, RTUs, and other safety systems.

In addition to the general supervision of the unionized workforce, you will also be responsible for the training of employees plus administrative duties such as approving/authorizing requests, timekeeping, scheduling, writing reports, capital and non-capital project management, budgeting, and liaising with other department of the TTC or outside suppliers.

As a Foreperson in Communications, you will oversee the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of various communications and safety/security systems. You will also review, modify, and update or upgrade systems and databases on an on-going basis (both hardware and software) as new information relevant to work is introduced.

You will conduct site meetings, provide technical expertise, guidance, assistance and make recommendations as needed. You will also review, process, and monitor information (data, records, processes and/or equipment inventory), following up, and updating as required.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your educational background will consist of a post-secondary diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e., Communications, Electrical/Electronics Engineering/Technology, etc.) Your certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) will be considered an asset.
  • Your application will demonstrate experience with sophisticated electronic communications equipment, peripherals and/or fibre optic cables and knowledge of Radio frequency electronic testing equipment and fibre optic cabling and OTDR troubleshooting techniques.
  • It will also demonstrate your ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of a skilled unionized workforce.
  • Your knowledge of the installation, maintenance, testing and repair techniques for electrical/electronic/computerized and communications equipment, used in SCADA, Radio Communications, and Cable Infrastructure will be evident.
  • In addition, your application will demonstrate your familiarity with ISO 9000-3 quality standards along with a thorough understanding of applicable policies, procedures, operations, legislation and regulations regarding safety, environment, employment, etc. and knowledge of the applicable collective agreement(s).
  • You will have sound judgment, well-developed problem solving, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • As a Foreperson, Communications, you will be required to complete various training courses related to the work of the section, as specified by management.
  • Your possession of a valid non-probationary class "G" Driver's License and ability to use a personal vehicle to inspect work at various locations is required.
