Reporting to the Senior Foreperson, Station Maintenance, this position is responsible for the maintenance activities within the Stations Department while directly supervising and instructing unionized employees and/or contractors on safe work procedures and practices. The candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of plant systems, tools, and equipment and excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders related to the work assigned. As the Foreperson, Station Maintenance, may be required to conduct training sessions, investigations, inspections and quality audits, as well as keeping up to date on technical and legislative developments related to industrial cleaning operations.


The role also entails administrative tasks such as timekeeping, preparing and maintaining records, generating reports, summaries, etc. related to the work.

What You Will Do

Please note: Although this position is within the Stations Department, the duties for this position will be specific to the maintenance section.

  • Respond to calls regarding station maintenance emergencies, unsanitary or potentially dangerous conditions.
  • Ensure maintenance assignments are completed as per schedules and established standards.
  • Ensure employees are appropriately trained on aspects of work, policies, and safety.
  • Plan, adjust, and project work, schedules, costs, and systems.
  • Maintain equipment inventory (MAXIMO), cleaning supplies, equipment and material database
  • Develop/assess hazard identification risk assessments for the section.
  • Operate a non-revenue TTC vehicle to travel to various stations.
  • Provide direction to Industrial Millwrights on the repairing/cleaning of machinery/equipment
  • Prepare reports, estimates, employee related documents, schedules, inventory.
  • Prepare standard operating procedures for different work practices and procedures pertaining to station maintenance operations.
  • Participate in the TTC's Customer Service Ambassador Program

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • A valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class "G" driver's license in good standing.
  • Plant maintenance supervisory experience in a unionized environment with proven experience supervising a unionized workforce while maintaining plant systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of janitorial services, including practices and procedures, materials and equipment.
  • Knowledge of relevant departmental policies and procedures, government regulations (e.g. Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, use of chemical cleaners, etc.) as they apply to the workplace.
  • Ability to organize, implement and revise a variety of work schedules.
  • Sound judgement, organizational and interpersonal skills combined with good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Local 113 Collective Agreement and Maintenance Seniority Regulations.
  • Must be able to supervise, motivate, coordinate, manage, train, counsel and discipline unionized employees.
  • Must have knowledge of the Subway/SRT Rule Book, the ATU, Local 113 collective agreement, maintenance seniority regulations, etc, as well as the policies and procedures, government rules and regulations applicable to the work performed (e.g. OH&SA, Ontario Building Code, W.H.M.I.S, environmental regulations, etc.)
  • As a Foreperson, Station Maintenance, you will be required to complete various technical courses, including the TTC's program for the Operation of a TTC vehicle, and pass the written and practical tests involved.
