We collaborate with public and private sector clients to unlock the ground-breaking potential of railways. We offer a broad range of services spanning planning, design, delivery, systems integration, assurance, safety and security assessments, and optimization of railway operation and maintenance performance to unlock the financial value for investors, asset owners, operators and maintainers, while navigating the transition to low carbon and resilient rail. You would be joining our multidisciplinary team focusing on technical excellence and innovative solutions that shape a better future for people and the planet.

The opportunity

  • Work in multidisciplinary teams for delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects for rail transportation with emphasis on track and alignment design
  • Interpret and coordinate design results into project documentation under the supervision of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) such as Technical Memos, Rail Systems Asset Siting Studies and Reports, or Basis of Design Reports
  • Communicate design work through preparation of drawing sketches indicating support types, geometry, integration, construction sequencing, and instrumentation.
  • Apply structural, drainage, and soil mechanics skills to assess likely failure modes and develop ground support schemes
  • Undertake linear and non-linear structural analysis of ballasted or slab track based on Code requirements using first principles
  • Carry out empirical, analytical, and numerical analyses for purposes of coordinating track and systems provisions in the tunnel and shaft design
  • Make use of automation and established workflows to follow best practice. Develop workflows and ideas for automation where none exist

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Computer, Information Systems or similar)
  • Sound knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals, track dynamics and superelevation fundamentals, track spiral transitions, soil and rock mechanics, and tunneling methods
  • Good time management habits, ability to multi-task, ability to sustain focus on long tasks
  • Ability to communicate thoughts and ideas in an accessible way – distill design tasks and solutions into concise text and presentation slides
  • Demeanor of taking initiative, passion, eagerness to learn, teamwork, creativity
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future

Preferred:

  • Master of Science or Engineering in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Computer or Information Systems
  • Eligible to become a member of the PEO/OIQ/APEGA
  • Numerical modeling skills using one of the tunnel design software packages described above
  • Computer programming and visualization skills (Matlab, Python, Rhino)
  • A relevant internship with an engineering design or contracting firm
  • History of creative problem solving and communication of solutions through technical presentations or reports

Toronto Hiring Range – Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $61, 000 to $70, 500 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
