Job Description

Reports to: Senior Director, Labour Relations
Work Model: Hybrid
Grade: N0:07
Salary Range: To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN Compensation Policy
Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week
Shifts: Mon - Fri
Status: Permanent Full-Time
Closing Date: February 5, 2025

Duties

  • Assist in planning, developing, and implementing labour relations strategies including policies, programs and procedures
  • Advise on the interpretation of service, clerical, and clinical collective agreements, organizational policies, compensation and benefit programs for unionized employees
  • Assist with bargaining preparation, including conducting research, costing and survey analysis
  • Actively participate in the negotiation of the organization's various collective agreements by taking notes and contributing to the collaborative dialogue in the management caucus room
  • Assist with post-bargaining preparation, including editing collective agreements, partnering with payroll on retro payments, responding to manager and employee inquiries related to the implementation of the ratified collective agreement
  • Assist with the preparation for mediation and/or arbitration and provide advice on grievance resolution
  • Assist with drafting grievance settlement documents
  • Correspond with Union Partners on assigned labour relations responsibilities
  • Assist with maintaining and monitoring the labour relations inbox
  • Assist with designing and developing labour relations training modules
  • Participate in continuous labour relations improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • A University degree with a focus on Labour Relations/Human Resources or specialized College diploma in this field and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in coordination of Labour relations activities, including collective agreement costing, analytics and metric reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills including using pivot tables, v-look up, etc.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining and grievance/arbitration processes is considered an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proven ability to maintain and work with confidential and time-sensitive information
  • Effective time management and organizational skills, with attention to detail
  • Strong analytical/interpretative and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and the ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient computer skills that include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Microsoft Outlook, presentation packages, and records management applications.
