Position Summary
Postdoctoral positions are available in Professor Hakem's laboratory at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, part of the University Health Network in Toronto, Canada. Our research team is committed to exploring innovative mechanisms of cancer and identifying therapeutic vulnerabilities to develop treatments for aggressive cancers.

Professor Hakem's research program focuses on several pivotal domains: cancer genetics, DNA damage repair, genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screening, biochemistry, transcriptomics, epigenetics, chromatin remodeling, pharmacogenomics, and multi-omics integration. The program employs various methodologies to inform our studies, including mouse models, patient-derived xenografts, patient-derived organoids, and publicly available cancer databases, such as The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Through applying systems biology, interdisciplinary approaches, and robust collaborations with scientists, clinicians, pathologists, medicinal chemists, and computational biologists, our objective is to advance therapeutic options for patients with cancer https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5948-7931.

Our laboratory has a distinguished history of investigating cancer mechanisms and related signalling pathways. We have published our studies in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Structural and Molecular Biology (doi:10.1038/s41594-024-01286-7), Nature Communications (doi:10.1038/ncomms12638), the Journal of Clinical Investigation (doi:10.1172/JCI140105 and doi:10.1172/JCI120401), and Nucleic Acids Research (doi.10.1093/nar/gkad172 and doi.10.1093/nar/gkad733).

Duties

  • Working closely with our research team members
  • Regularly updating the PI on the research progress
  • Weekly data presentation at our lab meeting
  • Excellent skills in writing manuscripts and fellowship application

Qualifications

  • Expertise in cancer biology, biochemistry, or related academic disciplines is required.
  • Candidates with substantial experience in DNA damage repair, transcription, and epigenetics will be prioritized.
  • PhD degree in a relevant field, must be obtained within the previous 5 years.
  • Candidates should exhibit high motivation and dedication to their academic pursuits.
  • A robust publication record in cancer research is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
  • Candidates who demonstrate excellence in both independent and collaborative academic work will be prioritized.
