Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our Streetcar Infrastructure team.

What You Will Do

  • Provide various technical, analytical, administrative, financial, and field functions to support the planning and co-ordination of the section's Capital and Operational work activities.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs.
  • Manage the track inspection program and condition monitoring to the streetcar network including concrete.
  • Conduct various technical assignments including use of specialized measuring instruments, related to the maintenance, inspection, measuring, testing, improvement, and repair of the surface track network.
  • Develop. monitor and update the section's five and ten-year Capital Programs based on ongoing inspections, repair priority, construction efficiency, and evaluation of structural defects on the basis of severity.
  • Assist in detailed schedule planning/analysis, construction claims analysis, constructability reviews, as well as the provision and administration of construction services and labour resource planning.
  • Review inspection reports, condition surveys and priority ratings.
  • Update schedules and files of Streetcar Way capital projects and contract activities.
  • Review and interpret contract documents, request for information (RFI) submissions, design changes and contractor submissions including scheduling details and safety related plans and submissions.
  • Analyze construction costs (e.g. materials, change orders, payments, etc.) and schedules, and bring issues forward for resolution.
  • Prepare various reports, analyzes and makes recommendations concerning project operations.
  • Assists in the preparation of a variety of forms/reports; includes progress reports, work order requests etc.
  • Coordinates efforts between TTC operations staff, section personnel, engineering/maintenance staff, as well as municipalities, utility companies and other public agencies/regulatory bodies.
  • Takes professional responsibility for work performed as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
  • Works with other TTC departments/sections to arrange testing for quality assurance during design/construction.
  • Provide technical recommendations and advice in regards to the review of all contracts and submittals (e.g. shop drawings, catalogue cuts, Requests for Acceptance of Products, Operations and Maintenance manuals).

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e., Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Directly related work experience in the inspection of medium to heavy construction projects.
  • Your application will reveal sound knowledge of construction management practices and principles, construction techniques and practices, including familiarity with construction and safety laws, contract administration, contract inspection and claims management.
  • Strong knowledge of, and experience in specialized construction scheduling methods and analysis.
  • Your application will reveal sound knowledge of civil/structural engineering principles, methods and practices as they relate to structural inspection, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction of bridge and underground structures.
  • Your application will reveal sound knowledge of construction techniques (concrete and structural steel rehabilitation, repair of bridges and structures, etc.) and applicable codes, standards and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of computerized software applications (spreadsheets, word processing, databases, etc.) relevant to the work performed.
  • Must have proven analytical and problem solving skills; well-developed interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills; and strong organizational and administrative abilities.
  • Ability to deal effectively with various TTC personnel as well as Consultants and City staff having a wide variety of technical expertise.
  • Must have or must quickly acquire a sound working knowledge of TTC policies and procedures applicable to the work performed; these include applicable Collective Agreements, Department Procedures Manual, TTC Design Manual, etc.
  • Will be required to support night shift on occasion depending on project and business needs.
