Job Summary:

JOB TITLE: Project Manager - Standards Development, Worker and Public Safety

JOB TYPE: Contract, 12 months

JOB LOCATION: Toronto

JOB SUMMARY:

CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for a Project Manager, Standards Development, Worker and Public Safety. In this challenging and rewarding role, you will interact with industry experts, labour, employers, manufacturers, academia, researchers, scientists, and government officials, facilitating technical discussions and promoting consensus amongst these key stakeholders to develop leading-edge standards solutions. Developed by volunteer members through an accredited process, CSA Group standards are used by a broad base of stakeholders to help enhance safety and sustainability for people and business.

The Worker and Public Safety standards team manages and facilitates the development of a diverse portfolio of standards, and standards research, addressing public safety (e.g., OHS standards specifically developed for public safety personnel, disaster and emergency management systems and practices, and/or transportation safety standards such as TDG, bus safety, ambulance design), and occupational health and safety (e.g., personal protective equipment (PPE) standards such as respiratory protection, fall protection, and hearing protection). Many of these standards are referenced in provincial/territorial and federal labour regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitating the development of worker and public safety standards and related materials by CSA Group volunteer committee members;
  • Establishing and actively managing project processes and schedules, resource requirements (e.g., funding, personnel), costs, quality, and risk;
  • Creating and maintaining strong relationships and networks with stakeholders;
  • Day-to-day management of committee activities, delivering on project milestones and targets;
  • Convening committee meetings (both virtual and in-person), including preparation of meeting materials and follow-up activities (agendas, meeting packages, draft standards, minutes, etc.);
  • Liaising with internal and external partners including clients, management, legal, finance, education, and research to develop proposals, contracts, and financial analyses for new projects, including potential CSA Group research projects;
  • Working with committee leadership to manage committee membership;
  • Participating on occasional ad-hoc internal task groups (e.g., related to business or process improvement, research projects); and
  • Other related responsibilities.

EDUCATION:

  • A university degree required in a technical field related to worker and public safety.
  • An engineering or other related technical degree would be considered an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience within the worker and public safety sector.
  • Experience working with public safety personnel is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in project management (PMP designation is considered an asset).
  • Knowledge of the standards industry, government policy, and sector landscape would be considered an asset.

SKILLS:

  • Top-notch people skills: managing relationships, facilitating and networking with people at all levels with divergent interests, backgrounds, and goals.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including proficiency in technical writing.
  • Excellent project management, organizational and planning skills. Detail and process oriented.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, political sensitivity, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
  • High degree of self-motivation, resilience, adaptability, and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player and build capacity of peers.
  • Strong computer skills (spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software, project planning software, etc.).
  • Applicants with proficiency in French will be given special consideration.

Some travel may be required.
