Job Description

The Reliability Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the long-term reliability, safety, and efficiency of equipment and systems within our operations. The primary focus will be on developing and implementing strategies to improve the reliability of critical assets, minimize downtime, and optimize maintenance practices. A key aspect of this role will involve conducting criticality analyses and other reliability assessments even in scenarios where data is scarce or incomplete. Will also lead and mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement. This position requires 50%+ travel to remote sites overseas, ensuring that global operations are supported for reliability excellence.

Job Responsibilities

1. Reliability Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive reliability strategies aimed at improving the performance and longevity of critical assets.
  • Establish and maintain reliability standards, procedures, and best practices tailored to the oil and gas or mining industry.

2. Criticality & Reliability Analysis:

  • Conduct criticality analyses and other reliability assessments with minimal data, applying expert judgment and innovative methodologies to derive actionable insights.
  • Perform failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) and root cause analysis (RCA), even in data-limited environments, to identify potential risks and drive mitigation strategies.

3. Data Analysis & Risk Assessment:

  • Utilize limited data to perform statistical analysis, trend analysis, and predictive modeling, ensuring reliability insights are derived even from minimal datasets.
  • Develop strategies for improving data collection and quality over time to enhance future reliability assessments.

4. Maintenance Optimization:

  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop and refine preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Evaluate and optimize maintenance schedules based on reliability data to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.

5. Asset Management:

  • Lead initiatives to improve asset performance through condition monitoring, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and life cycle cost analysis (LCCA).
  • Recommend equipment upgrades, modifications, or replacements based on reliability assessments.

6. Project Management:

  • Manage and oversee reliability projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate with project teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure alignment with reliability objectives.

7. Technical Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior reliability engineers and maintenance personnel.
  • Lead training sessions and workshops to promote a culture of reliability within the organization.

8. Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure all reliability engineering activities comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Participate in safety audits, inspections, and reviews to identify and address potential reliability issues.

9. Global Support & Travel:

  • Provide on-site support and expertise to remote sites overseas, ensuring consistent reliability practices and solutions across all locations.
  • Facilitate the implementation of global reliability initiatives, adapting strategies to local conditions and challenges.

10. Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for cost reduction, process optimization, and reliability enhancement.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in reliability engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in reliability engineering & asset management, with a focus on heavy industry, oil and gas, or mining industry.
  • CMRP, CAMA or CAMP or equivalent certifications will be an asset.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to perform reliability analyses under data constraints.
  • Proficient in reliability engineering tools and software (e.g., Weibull analysis, RCM software, CMMS).
  • Excellent project management and leadership abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 55000, API, IEC).
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%, including to remote and international locations.
  • Portuguese / Spanish / Arabic / French an asset.

Travel Requirements

- Ability to travel internationally 50% of the time to remote sites overseas.
